We made the decision in our family to standardize all of our "Heavy Duty MSR" rifles with TR24Gs and BUIS. We had this very discussion many nights before we made our final choice. Beyond the match to our intended use our rationale was that if TSHTF within the next 10 years we would be well within the useful tritium life window. If the walls of Jericho are still standing in ten years, the optics will be moved down to the next tier of rifles or sent back to have the tritium refreshed. Odds are there will be a better option in optics in ten years anyway. Don't forget you can redneck the optic by taping a small led light on the fiber optics if the tritium goes TU on you.
Can't argue the pros of the Aimpoints, they are superb optics and I have them on a couple of my other rifles. I'm lucky I can afford to run both, but my grab it gun is running the Trijicon 1-4.

I had always heard that the half life of tritium is 10 years, no? If so, my question to you as an "inside source" is, how many optics have you seen that actually are still glowing in a useable manner at say 15+ years?

I've seen people use electrical tape and a glow stick on acogs before, I'll try to dig up a picture

I can't remember which reflex it was, but one of the RX-series of Trijicon sights had a cyalume compartment, with mini chem lights to go in as a backup.

I haven't seen one since about 2007. They're majorly old school.

No - this is old school. Bet most of the kids around here don't even what it is. Still looking for a way to mount it to my Daniel Defense rail.

It's a carbide miner's lamp. My dad had one for years.

    (What did I win?)
