CS and 17-7 springs both have their pros and cons. For the A5 type setups I use either a Colt rifle spring or Springco green spring. The Vltor springs seem somewhat weak. I generally use Colt springs with A5H1-A5H3, and Springco green with A5H3-A5H4. There's an overlap with the A5H3, could go either way. The Springco green spring is a stiffer spring and helps speed up the carrier into battery with the heavy buffers.

    LMT Enhanced carrier

I may have to get a lighter buffer than the Vltor standard but am unsure at this point...?
I'm running 14.5 DD Mid length barrel with a 1.5 Battlecomp, VLTOR A5 with Green Springco, A5H3 buffer, and LMT E-BCG. It's THE smoothest shooting rifle I own and eats PMC Bronze for breakfast.

Yes. Once i started using the lmt e-carrier, which helped tame the gas system, i started experiencing muzzle dip with the green spring when the bcg returned to battery.

Returning to the std Vltor spring or a colt rifle spring solved the problem and caused less net gun movement and no muzzle dip.

I like the LMT E carrier, when it's used with the A5 type or rifle like systems. Not so much without the A5 or rifle type action systems for reliability. On a regular Colt M4 it adds durability and questionable reliability depending on the results you look at. Outside of the Colt M4 standard, this can have many benefits for a wide range of operation that could help many folks for various reasons.

Well, because both are RIFLE springs, they are going to be under less stress than a carbine spring from the git go.

I would expect a std Vltor spring to last at least twice as long as a quality non-CS carbine spring. If i had to guess, I'd call it between 8k and 10k rounds on a fairly aggressive firing schedule.

I know of several program 1033 20" rifles at my agency that have over 30k rounds at my agency and have never had their action springs replaced.

The A5 system places the rifle spring under slightly more pre-load, which incrementally increases stress on the spring....but only just.

Well, I went out and got the A5 today (the 7-hole one even though I use the Bravo B5--just went with what the had and kinda like the extra LOP on the 1st setting).
I REALLY wanted to run an A5H3 in it for the class this weekend, but can't find one in town...and even an overnight shipping would probably not get here until late Friday (I'm leaving straight from work though). I'm sure the A5H2 will be fine.

Now to find earpro that doesn't bump up against the stock (that was annoying).

Do you have a backup? That could be troublesome...

They are available on the Vltor site. That's where I bought mine. You don't get any extra swag but you may get the buffer in time.

I use Pro Ears. They still bump from time to time but they have felt on the bottom on the right cup.

-- Well, I don't have an EASY backup--I have a standard buffer tube, spring and H and H2 (but that would take some time--even though the range DOES always seem to have an armorer on duty during classes there). I'm assuming there will be NO problem running the standard A5 with its A5H2 buffer since I ONLY run xm193 5.56 (federal/lake city). I'm going to put another 100-200rds through it tomorrow (I put about 200rds through it today with the old GT2 buffer/RE). IF I have any issues tomorrow, I'll change it back for the class.

Vltor was one of the first places I looked--they were out too: http://www.vltorstore.com/a5h3-a5-6-08oz-buffer/

Last I checked, you can't go wrong with the standard A5 buffer.
