I am one of those guys who likes to try out different stuff just to see how it works for me. I have the time and a few resources to do so. But, I'm really hesitant about Spike's. First, I do not like Zombie, punisher, spiders, dogs. cats, rats, or Hello Kitty on my rifles. Tasteful serious and low key logos and markings only. I cannot stand large pictogram fire control displays marked it white and red... So, I would never own a Spike's receiver.

That said, I have tried a couple of items, the Spike's battle trigger caught my eye as I was thinking of having a trigger NiB coated myself. Got one from Spike's, but the disconnector looked like stamped steel with ridges all around the edges. I called them, gave them a bad time, and they said they would send me an RMA. Last time I heard anything. Still have the trigger if anyone wants it...geez.

While experimenting with buffers and springs, I went for a ST-2. I put this and a SpringCo Blue spring in a rifle to see if it would smooth it out a little. Bingo! First, try I was lucky enough to get a good result. I tried a repeat of this in another similar rifle and same result. Didn't have to try anything else ( I don't like to mess with something that seems to work). Now I just hope the buffers don't come apart.

Anyway, I don't like hit and miss, so I will continue to use Troy BUIS on ALL my weapons, because I know they work and are rugged. Yeah, Troy has a tin ear and is going to loose some business, and I will not buy any other product from them. But for now I just don't trust the alternatives.

Yeah, but isn't the Spike's FN Optimum a close clone of the Noveske N4 Light (not the Skinny)? I have some of the Noveske barrels because it is such a nice profile.

As for LaRue - I once followed a thread where LaRue confronted a customer and berated him when the customer simply said that the mount he used marked his rail. While I thought the complaint was petty, I was shocked by the exchange. I like and use LaRue stuff, but that was way over the edge. They need to keep Mark locked in the back room designing and making good stuff and let others handle customers.

One thing about this forum, I like it, it is the best, but there is a tendency to jump a little heavy occasionally. Yeah, it keeps people honest, but it seems a bit like a blanket party sometimes. JMHO

Oh, and I vote no on the aesthetics of the Spike's BUIS, and don't know what they are made of.

I think so. It's basically just a gov't profile to the FSB, then between light weight and gov't to the threads.

Sometimes it seems like doing something not retarded is considered innovation, I have no idea why the gov't profile exists on any civilian AR.

The Spikes Optimium barrels are over $200 cheaper than a Noveske and they're much easier to get. I don't think the Noveske chrome-lined barrels are all that special when you put 'em up against a Colt or BCM...

That's what I'm saying. I know the focus of that thread is a member here, so let's leave it here.

I am not really feeling these sights. The rear peep is flimsy and looks like it could snag and break/bend, or break/bend easily if the rifle is dropped.

Do you own a set? or have held some? Kind of hard to see if something is flimsy by looking at a picture.
From TOS ... "buy the shit out of that thing, all the mil spec is just nonsense."

Its funny how some people can tell how unsat the new Spike's sights are just from looking at a pic on the net.

It is funny how people on here bash the Spike's buffers because of a video on YouTube while one of the site's SME's says he likes them.

It is funny how Mark LaRue's name gets thrown around in conjunction with difficult but yet he posts all the time on LF with no "difficulties".

His difference in posting style is night and day on LF versus Arfcom.

LOL, because you know everyone bashes on Spikes buffers because of a youtube vid. People don't like them because A: over priced. B: un needed. C: doesn't really do anything than a legit h/h1 etc buffer does. Snake oil for the masses. They sell because people like that they are colored and not gold like the normal ones, and they have block lettering and a Spider. Fact is most aren't buying them for what they do, they are buying them because they look "cool".

Also LF doesn't tolerate douchebaggery, so of course someone may be different on there than say on here or TOS. Simple reality of different forums personalities. In the end who cares. Just more drama etc. Doesn't matter to me if the owner is a douche, but it does matter for me about stuff plastered with gimmick logos and such.

Anyways, I can see this thread getting locked in a heart beat as how far this has strayed from the sights.

Personally, I have no issue with the sights (at least from what I have seen). BUIS's are HIGHLY selective to peoples requirements and budgets.

I had an Active Duty SEAL in a class with a SERPA holster. When he was advised of all the issues related to this holster, he switched it out for a FOBUS. His knowledge in the art of clearing rooms was off the chart and was a super cool dude. Point being, not all SME's are gear queers.

I have known Mr. LaRue longer than just about anyone on the net (as I was the FIRST LT dealer and considered Mr. LaRue a friend). His posting style on one forum can and will be entirely different on another (as he can get away with being himself on one forum, but not on another).

More and more, companies are judged not by the products they make, but by the attitude and or stupidity of the owners. Case in point, AAC's owner suing that guys on ARFCOM. Tons of people backed off the AAC fanboy rocket. Did AAC make a good product that was superior in many ways to the competition? Yep. That still couldn't save them.
