I think TiN is used on rifle buttons.... in that realm the button is constantly soaked in cutting/machining oils.
I've heard this before -I am motorcyclist and used to do some club level racing, I always wondered why TiN or DLC found on high end fork tubes was not used in AR/M4 BCG's. An amorer buddy of mine opined on the balance of anti corrosive properties, the ability to maintain lubriciation/slickness and durability limited the range of coatings to few options. In his mind, phosphate coating is still the standard.

They do. Some of the black PVD coatings are DLC.
I turned wrenches on race bikes for years, including suspension work. The gold TiN coating first came around and then the black DLC became more popular as it is harder but I think the Japanese factories can get it done cheaper.

Some people do not like the slick coatings as lube does not stick to it.

Your right. I don't own one. I own real military firearms built to a professional quality standard. As a result, I don't have to worry about bullshit NiB or Ti finishes. Since I only own real USGI BCGs, I don't have to worry about if the bolt is made from cheaper and weaker 9310 or 8620 steel and will shear lugs off after 1500 rounds.

I also don't have to worry about substandard gas rings, ejector and extractor springs, Ti firing pins, gas key staking or any of that bullshit either.

The Ti finish is specifically placed on BCGs for cosmetics to get dumb shits to buy them after they see the "yellow titanium finish"

I said a TiN finish was snake oil in the context of it being used on an AR-15 BCG.

Every TiN BCG that is currently on the market is a cheap shit aftermarket consumer grade BCG.

You mean you have since clarified your opinion since being called out.

Also, you get your bolts given to you by the US government? How does one sign up for that?

The lack of respect and decency of some on this forum is shameful.

Come on man, you know what he meant by saying USGI. It is made by the guys that hold the USGI TDP and make their parts accordingly. It's not the be all end all but it's a very legitimate baseline.

Maybe I'm a sucker, but I know when I buy Colt, I'm buying the same thing that's in my M4. Same confidence as dealing with BCM, etc.
