Maybe its just me but I'm not crazy about uppers with big cutouts in the rail. Lighter is great but I would rather have a bunch of smaller cutouts. That aside, the price on the rails is attractive and I like Ranier products.

Also, I would like to see how it looks with the gas tube installed.

Thanks for the pictures! The upper turned out well.

Does it dissipate the heat enough to keep the rail from burning your fingers? With all those cutouts I'd guess it would.

I thought so too. I was beginning to think I had installed mine the wrong way.

The rail looks ok, but there are a couple things that bother me. some of these things apply to the NSR rail as well as the Rainer rail. First, I prefer rails that do not need to be indexed so they are aligned properly. The Rainier rail uses shims if the barrel nut cannot be indexed, I don't like shims. The NSR allows you to use either end of the barrel nut to try to get the proper index, I'm not crazy about this either and have had problems getting the rail aligned without too much or too little torque. This leaves lapping the upper to achieve the proper torque.

I'm not a fan of rails with QD mounts milled in. Why? Because they are never where I want my QD mount to be and are therefore a waste of space and increase the cost.

Finally, I prefer steel barrel nuts over aluminum. The NSR uses steel which is preferable to me

I just bought the floor model they had in the display case last Saturday. It's on a lightweight PSA 16in middy I bought. I have not used it thus far. it fits real nice.

I'm totally with you on the first one. After a few frustrating experiences with an NSR, I'm hesitant to look at any similar attachment methods. I'm with you on the last part. I really don't see the advantage to this compared to some of the other lockup methods, yet they seem to be popping up all over.
