[QUOTE=RedXd;1861797]So much for the Alpha I just acquired. The Keymod system is making more since to me as I now understand it better.

Keymod doesn't make your Alpha rail obsolete. I just provides a universal way to mount things. Some without the need for rail sections. For accessories that require rail sections you Alpha rail will do anything a keymod rail will. GH

Good point, but it also touches on what convinced me to finally give keymod a try. Over the last couple of years, I've built and shot numerous guns with tubular rails, namely Troy rails and the Centurion CMR. I really liked the thin tubular designs. What I didn't like were the proprietary attachment methods required by some and the difficulty of changing the configuration without removing the rails altogether. There are numerous posts here with people asking about compatibility between one company's rail with other parts, like MOE rail sections or modified parts to work with this or that rail. I sat on the sidelines watching keymod rail development, wondering if it would really catch on. Over the last year, the adoption of keymod by BCM and KAC seemed to indicate to me that it was here to stay. As I started to give it greater consideration, I began to realize that it was a natural evolution of the tubular rails, with a universal mounting system. Now, with IWC, KAC, BCM, Noveske and others producing a wider variety of accessories, it seems to be hitting it's stride. The ability to purchase accessories from any number of manufacturers and attach them to your rail of choice is keymod's biggest advantage. As the trend grows, I'll be very interested to see what other ways it can be utilized, especially with direct mount options coming into the market.

Thanks for the clarification. Guess I need to spend more time looking at the products already released that could possibly mount directly.

I think I remember seeing some neat stuff from Unity Tactical back around SHOT Show. Any news on this?

Are they textured plastic or do they have a rubber overmold?
