I really hate seeing a post like this. It burns my ass when a state (or their all knowing, all forseeing legislators) feel the desire to infringe on our second amendment rights.

No, just not as accurate at range. Goes to show gun laws are made by people that do not understand guns, nobody that understands guns would make stupid laws that make no sense.

Stems from people cutting rifles like the Browning BAR and SBS's like the cut down Browning A5 Whippets back in gangsta days. LE tended to be outgunned without Fed help. Silencers made the NFA list due to fears of poaching.

That's some history right there! Bonnie and Clyde use to saw their BAR's and shotties off.

From my understanding handguns were originally written into the NFA but were taken out because of public/political backlash. The SBR rule was put in to prevent people from cutting long arms down to pistol size to get around the law.

Unfortunately, when handguns were taken off the NFA legistlation the dopey SBR rule stayed. Very frustrating knowing SBRs were not really supposed to be in there

As a by product of lesser velocity, accuracy at range is reduced because more exposure to lateral wind (worse poa vs poi accuracy, not worse group size accuracy) and the possibility of dropping below supersonic velocities.

That being said, it's not intended for long range shooting, so an sbr doesn't practically reduce accuracy in its intended envelope of operation.
