When I read people post about gas in the face, I worry that they're huffing lead vapor. I almost never get gassed out anymore.. and I was thinking perhaps it's due to running match bullets with no exposed lead base.

Here are a few interesting quotes from this link.

    http://dfuse.us/lead.html

FMJ ammo and lead slugs both introduce substantial amounts of airborne lead vapors (the absolute worst form) into the air. FMJ has exposed lead bases and the hot gases vaporize lead at the base of the bullet. How many of you have looked at the base of a fired lead or jacketed bullet? The granular and sometimes fractured appearance indicates gas cutting.
Jacketed bullets with the lead base exposed are no better for airborne lead than lead bullets and some are actually worse.
How many of you have had a sweet acrid taste in the back of your throat/mouth while shooting at an indoor range? That is lead!

I just finished doing the RTV mod to my CHs in a few rifles I get gas in the face as well but haven't been to the range since the RTV mod,But I am wondering the same thing as the OP about the enhanced carrier from LMT..If it reduces the gas coming back in my face it would be worth it amung the other benefits it comes with. I do run an A5 on the gun(mk18 .071 gas port SF FA-556-212 can)

Agreed on the bolt. I use a std mil-spec LMT phosphated bolt (any quality bolt will work). The magic seems to be in the carrier and, to my knowledge, there are still some unsolved mystery malfs that seemed to stem from the use of the BOLT and not of the carrier.

No problems whatsoever with enhanced bolt carrier & standard bolt on 11.5" gun.

There has been plenty of discussion in regards to the LMT enhanced carrier groups. I use the carriers only and then add my own standard USGI bolts. If you have an option to get one, I recommend you get one. I think I am running 3 or 4 now in various uppers. ZERO issues in thousands of rounds.

Are there any configurations where an e carrier will start to choke? Say a 14.5 middy with vltor a5? There's so many revisions and updates to the carrier and information about it that I'm just confused at this point.

Considering how popular the KAC E3 bolt is, I'm a bit perplexed why LMT enhanced bolt doesn't get more love. The only complaints I've read about the enhanced bolt where from like 6 years ago and I understand the bolt has undergone refinement since then.

If you stick with the std A5 buffer and spring, you'll be fine.

You are as bad as me with your thought provoking hints

I can only guess that YES is the answer... of course windy days help.

As to the lead vapors... that alone is well worth doing something to limit that exposure.

Question for the OP. Is this a 100% suppressed only rifle, or a rifle that needs to function without the suppressor?
