    Stupid Question

I have a DPMS 16" and just replaced my A2 front sight with a DPMS low profile gas block. The gas port on the barrel appears to be lined up with the gas port on the block. Is there any way to test this before going to the range.

Measure the distance from the edge of the gas block to the holeon the gas block... Then measure the distance from the collar on the barrel to the gas port.. If the gas block was designed to rest up against the collar, then they should be the same, if the gas block was designed to rest against the collar with a front hand guard cap in there, then the measurement will show this.

No. But the opening in the gas block is quite a bit larger than the gas port in the barrel. Eyeballing it should be "good enough". The correct answer with the greatest degree of reliability is that your barrel should be dimpled for the set screw gas block with the dimple(s) correctly placed via an accurate jig by a competent gunsmith, then the gas block should be pinned to the barrel. Then the alignment of the gas block isn't a question, nor is the possibility that it might ever loosen and disable your gas system at an inconvenient moment.

I highly recommend that you have the barrel dimpled before you complete the install on this.
