So in hijacking the thread if I wanted to time a Blackout would I use a peel washer or a crush washer?

Is it self-tightening like the Vortex is?

I could be way off...but my guess would be that whatever self-tightening the Vortex is doing would be from the twist it has to it.

    AAC Fh

The AAC non-mount FH like above measures 2.125 inches and the Vortex G6measures 2.265 inches. Thats .140 thousands of an inch differance . G&R Tactical has the AAC in stock .

The standard AAC Blackout FS is not indexed and is not self tightening. The FS come with a small container of Rocksett for securing it in place and the instructions specifically mention not to use any type of washers.

Sorry if this is off topic..

I am looking at getting the AAC Blackout for an LMT 14.5" upper. From searching the forums here it looks like pinning/welding will bring it to the required 16" legal length.

Are there any gunsmiths in the Northern Virginia area that you guys recommend to have it installed?

    Thanks in advance.

It's not going to be earth shattering. I've stood right above/next to my buddy's 16" AR with A2 flash hider when he was firing XM193 in low light and you really had to watch to see the flash.
