V-8 Engine Sound - Why do LS/Chevy Smallblock and Mclaren Engines Sound so Good?

I've been trying to figure out exactly why these engines are (to me) the best sounding out there, and I'm not sure how much of it is firing order, exhaust layout, or something else. I thought it was just the LS motors (unless they have dumb exhausts), but the first time I heard the MP4-12C I realized that others could have that same amazing throaty sound, even with a turbo affecting the exhaust note.

Is there something obvious about why these sound so much better (when compared to bigger displacement Hemi/Coyote/AMG/BMW V-8's that to me don't sound as good in mid-range when pinned) that I haven't figured out?

You may like the LS and McLaren V-8 sounds the most, but you should really consider a Maserati V-8 if you care about the ladies.

Here are a couple of decent vids on it:

However, I will admit that this is some of the best motoring video I've seen to date. The test drivers time on the track starting at 21:30 is sublime. The McLaren P1:

I prefer the sound of Ford V8's. Then again I am bias towards Ford, but I can't hate on GM (except for the garbage they call vehicles now).

Probably the same reason people think their gun is the best...because they own one.

Love engine sound, but I don't like how detached you are from it.

I actually have a fondness for trannys because you get to feel the stick and actually be in control of something.

The 2014 Mustang has a surprisingly amazingly tranny. But I am quickly learning the value of paddle shifters.

    Phrasing! Boom!
If you can't win a gun fight against a lightly-trained individual during broad daylight with 88 rounds of 30-06, I'm not sure you'd be able to do it with... any other firearm.

Ok, I've got an El Camino full of rampage here, so what's the plan?

I love the half-a-Harley sound of a big thumper. Sounds like a rampaging tractor.
The beasts of modernism have mutated into the beasts of postmodernism—relativism into nihilism, amorality into immorality, irrationality into insanity, sexual deviancy into polymorphous perversity. And since then, generations of intelligent students under the guidance of their enlightened professors have looked into the abyss, have contemplated those beasts, and have said, “How interesting, how exciting.”

We seriously need a custom karma title function.
The advice above is worth exactly what you paid for it.

I love GM's LS series engines and Ford's new coyote 5.0 ain't no slouch either (although it has 3 extra cams ). But I must say the new Jaguar F-Type and the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG have the best factory exhaust note I've heard in a long time.
