That might not be a bad thing, though. I've never trained with a VFG before, and my little range time with the Magpul AFG left me wondering what all the excitement was about with that product. I was looking at the KMR VFG only because the smaller and slicker KMR might not offer as much grip as a standard carbine handguard.

What are your thoughts on using the KMR VFG versus a hand stop of some sort? Is either necessary?
    black shows in stock again

Just worked out the vfg...rock solid. I started off with the Magpul AFG...then went in the opposite direction with a simple hand stop.

This BCM VFG works out just right - where I clamp over the top rail, and there's enough vertical for me to really pull her in.

No...I'm not crazy - and neither AM I !! Next question!!

Shot mine over the weekend at a local match, I just can't accept that level of movement in a grip. The base locks tight to the rail, and I removed it and reattached it a few times to make sure I wasn't derping it somehow, but the body still twists about ten degrees side to side every time I grasp it. I like everything else about the unit, but I expect better for the price, and from BCM.

    Back it goes.

That's strange. I wonder if you have one that just happens to be loose. I was messing with mine in reference to this issue and couldn't get them to twist with any reasonable grip pressure.

I did the same. Mine literally has zero play.

I wish he had a different grip to try to see if it wasn't unique to the VG he has.

Mine has movement when I twist it...while fondling it. Zero perceived twist when I'm shooting it.

Same here. Mine tightens up considerably during the last 180 degrees of rotation. When the retention tab snaps into place, it's solid, with no noticeable rotation. I'm sure if I really torqued it, that I could force some movement, but mine locks up nice and tight.
