The Double-Edged Sword Regarding Social Media: Sometimes There Is A Benefit

Most of the time it seems to be used for the worst, showing just how selfish much of humanity has become or how ignorant it is in general with little to no benefit whatsoever. However in this case, while it does the prior there is one of those rare benefits. As does happen once in a while when you are enough of a dickhead in public you may be held accountable in ways far beyond any you imagined at the time you were stuck in your dickheadedness.

Such as is what happened to this deserving ass.

Good job dad. I'm sure it will make for a great family memory for years to come.

Wasn't really looking to go there but we get the point and in his case perhaps the exposure was for the better. Unless he was an incredibly unruly idiot who needed a lesson taught, simply don't know.

The dad in video does come off as complete jerk. But, here it comes....
Guy filming was waiting on kid to wipe out and would have posted laughing at kid anyways.

Dad buys his son crash gear & a board. Takes 6 year old son to skate park enough that he has a nickname from other skaters. Dad knows what his son is capable of and helped him get over a fear.

My dad let go of my bike when teaching me how to ride and watched me promptly eat it. My uncle nailed me in the face with a baseball when teaching me how to catch. I learned how to swim by being chunked in the water. Good thing nobody filmed events because they would both probably be in prison.

An 11 second look into that day does look questionable. Think back to your childhood and imagine if someone had filmed just 11 seconds of experiences you had. How many of those would appear 'jerky'?

I'm not trying to start an argument. Only if more dads were actually involved with their kids like this guy. Now if dude is known to be this way, he deserves any heat he gets.

No matter how "engaged" as a dad he is, that was a completely abusive move. He can go take his anger out on something other than a 6 year old child.

Social media is what you make of it. Twitter, to me, is a WAY better news source than any cable news network. I can pick exactly what I want my feed to include. Can't do that with the spoon fed media.

Really doesn't matter what the motivations are of the guy films. I don't think the "kick into the game" helped the kid get over anything let alone his fear. Kid might never skate again. There is motivation and there are dick moves.

    This was a dick move.

It's also a dick move to let go of a bicycle if the kid doesn't "have it." My Dad never let me crash, he kept the bike up until I "had it" then he let go and I was fine from there on.

It's also a dick move to throw your kid in the deep end. My Dad made sure I knew how to swim and then took me out to the deep end and swam back with me.

Not even going to get into the baseball to the face stunt.

Now I'm all for helping a kid get over his fear and get into the game and all that. I was a martial arts instructor at the PAL teaching youth programs for years. Plenty of times there was a "little guy" who was good but didn't know it and lacked the confidence to get in there. But if I threw him in with some big kid who beat the snot out of him he'd never reach his potential. So I stayed with him challenging his skill level bit by bit until he knew he "had it" and then I let him go and he was fine.

Dad in the above video was a 100% dick move. Probably had more to do with the Dad feeling embarrassed by his son's fear (another dick move) or angry about spending all that money for his kid to freeze up on him (dick move).
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

I agree but will add that I don't think any less of my father or uncle. Looking back- I learned how to wreck a bike & eat a baseball then get up, brush myself off and get back to it. I understand that not every personality will cope the same in the same situation though.

I was one of the 'bigger kids' in the martial arts situation you speak of. Due to that I was very often the 'demonstration dummy' for our sensei. I would get tossed, absorb kicks & be walked around in holds for everyone to inspect. I had a difficult time throwing kicks (without getting pinched) wearing a required cup at tournaments. My sensei was aware of me not wearing one and would back hand me in the junk in front of the officials to make it appear that I was. Any of that sound familiar as an instructor? It's all questionable at the moment but his end game was solid.

Strip the dad down to a banana pocket make him drop in 10 times
Not sure how many here were are skaters but maso or skate surface can burn the heck out of your skin big time
Would be good justice so he knows what it's like

Or take him to maybe a 30 foot drop and kick him off !
