Another thing I've always done is NOT let them know exactly what I'm looking for and keep an eye on what's been sitting around for awhile (if it's a quality piece I might be wanting to add to my collection). Figure it's not doing them any good sitting and they can't eat it.

ALWAYS ask if they can do better on the price and throw a couple hundred less back at them. Try to get a couple mags thrown in or some ammo... Generally I pick on the known gougers that took advantage of the hoarding outbreak we had.
Oh, I tend to be pretty knowledgeable on my prices on items I want to buy or regularly buy. Pissed off a few dealers over the years when they start pushing items that they have marked up considerably higher than others. Don't mind pay a little more to buy local but when you're price is 30% over what I can buy the same item online shipped you're high.
Ah yes the ones who triple or quadrupole their prices. I think I managed to piss off about 50 of them last year. What gets me are the ones who are selling Glock mags $75-100 and then get pissed when you point out Midway or someone else has them for $35. What makes me sad though is the fact that people still pay it. Same with ammo and such too.
