Meanwhile they have never even heard of bcm, dd, noveske, etc. Ultimately its on them for not doing the research, but I think what's available locally skews the perception of what must be good.
Man your not kidding. You are also exactly correct!

I've walked around with an AR to sell at a gunshow before.."is that a Colt?" "is that a Colt?" "is that a Colt?". Not a Colt, they weren't interested. (this was a long time ago. For the record it was a S&W) Had the same experience with an UZI carbine. It was perfect and beautiful and made by Vector Arms. Had an $800 price on it (with accessories and about 5 military issue mags) and all I hard was, "Is that an IMI?" "IMI?" "IMI"? Of course it it was it would be twice the price. No one had heard of Vector Arms.

Haven't been to a gunshow in a long time...

The original article that the op linked to: http://www.ar-15-accessories.com/2013-selling-ar-15s/
appears to be ripped off from a Cheaper Than Dirt article published on 07/24/13. http://blog.cheaperthandirt.com/selling-ar-15s-2013/
The five mentioned rifles appear to be Cheaper Than Dirt's top five but not an "official tally" of the top five nationwide sellers.

If properly maintained, wouldn't these top 5 selling AR rifles perform well if taken to a class?

Or are the only AR rifles truly built to a higher standard (obviously the consumer pays for this) the only ones that will make it through tough conditions seen in training classes?

Some may.... but I wouldn't bet my life on it. Also, it depends on the class because some classes are much more demanding than others. You have to remember shooting 2,500 rounds over 3 days is not the same as putting 2500 through your rifle over 3 years. I wouldn't dare take #2 on that list to anything... #1 no thank you as well. #3.... maybe. #4 and #5 would be decent options. A lot of the issue with these "lower cost lower quality" manufacturers is their QC. You are more likely to get a rifle that isn't 100% properly machined and spec'd when buying one of these over a BCM, Noveske, ect ect. These minor issues can manifest themselves as actual problems when you stress the rifle.

The key words here are "Class" and "Conditions seen in training classes". What you want is something that is going to handle real life/real world beat to death, tortured past the point of no return under the worst conditions and still keep on tickin'. There are NO time outs in real life when your life depends on it for survival.

At least the 6920 made the list. I think the retailers should carry more of the 6720, but that's just personal preference, and I might be biased on that since I have one.

After all, most 6720's can be found for the same price or less of a 6920... go figure.

As for the lesser quality guns, I think its a dead horse at this point why people buy those.

Best to do your home work and know what a good price is (gotta love the internet) and have the cash on hand and ready to do it.

Another thing I've always done is NOT let them know exactly what I'm looking for and keep an eye on what's been sitting around for awhile (if it's a quality piece I might be wanting to add to my collection). Figure it's not doing them any good sitting and they can't eat it. ALWAYS ask if they can do better on the price and throw a couple hundred less back at them. Try to get a couple mags thrown in or some ammo... Generally I pick on the known gougers that took advantage of the hoarding outbreak we had.

I agree. It's best if even only buying a couple boxes every week or two. It adds up over time and some is better than none.

Oh, I tend to be pretty knowledgeable on my prices on items I want to buy or regularly buy. Pissed off a few dealers over the years when they start pushing items that they have marked up considerably higher than others. Don't mind pay a little more to buy local but when you're price is 30% over what I can buy the same item online shipped you're high.

Ah yes the ones who triple or quadrupole their prices. I think I managed to piss off about 50 of them last year. What gets me are the ones who are selling Glock mags $75-100 and then get pissed when you point out Midway or someone else has them for $35. What makes me sad though is the fact that people still pay it. Same with ammo and such too.

Isn't High Point the best selling handgun, too?
