I've got a buddy that went from having no long guns to buying five within a year. I think he's shot two of them once or twice. The rest haven't ever been loaded.

He recently saw a rifle that I bought a few months ago. He asked why it was scratched and and dirty.

"Because I actually use my guns. A lot." was my reply.

So what is the average life of a Bushmaster M4? It's the first one I ever bought (yea yea yea). Currently has ~2300 rounds through it and has never had a malfunction.

I don't shoot it much anymore as I have "graduated" to better offerings to chose from now... but it was a good entry level gun and has been reliable thus far. When I took a three day level two carbine class I used my Sig 516 and it ran great. I realize the Bushy would probably not go 20k without giving some fits like a DD, Noveske, or HK would... but, meh.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think consumers don't research what they buy out of habit. I don't research my favorite TP manufacturer or the factory that produced the hand soap in my bathroom. A failure of one or both to accomplish its intended result would be highly undesirable, but hopefully it would not be life threatening. However, I did buy both of these items at Walmart, and coincidentally I know some folks that bought a few ARs there as well. Yes, I tried to talk them out of it.

Some of you guys have probably heard the saying "I can't afford to be cheap". Well, guns absolutely epitomize that doctrine. I'll burn $2 on some second-rate dish soap, but I can't afford guns that fail.

Exactly. Some of my family members and friends ask me why I buy Colt, Daniel Defense, and am thinking of a SCAR, instead of some 3rd rate product. The answer is simple, because I want quality. I want a gun that if the need ever arrived where my life or somebody else depending on its functioning, I could count on it.

No they do research it's just that there are very few good advices. And those that are are far between. I'm on a few other forums and often questions like this pop up. Here you get 2 types of individuals. Those who want a confirmation and those that honestly want to know. The problem is you get guys that post shit like "it's an excellent sidearm! I've had one for 25 years and never a problem" When I ask amount of rounds fired they get all pissy. To them a gun that's laying around for 25 years equates reliability. Shit like this is what drowns out the few good advices that are thrown in.

Then there are guys who justify their purchase by saying that the TDP is the bottom level because it's the bate minimum. When asked what their AR is made from they have no response

Anyone who can't find these conversations on the internet isn't doing research at all. Forum searches can turn up everything you need to know and the example you've given should be an obvious red light to anyone who wants a quality option. Do a few searches on the names in the OP's list....there ya go. Don't get me wrong, I'm not about making anyone feel like an idiot unnecessarily, so if the situation was to arise I'd be glad to help anyone wherever I can, but if you buy an inferior product you have no one to blame, especially with the readily available knowledge on sites like this.

Well in all honesty you first have to know about this site. I just Googled "opinions on DPMS SPORTICAL" and this forum was no where near. Most what came up was 24hrcampfire, the firing line, ARF, some other random forums and articles. I read more good or at least acceptable opinions than not.

It is odd; those that are really into firearms, are really into firearms. They are on this site and other forums, and there's a lot of good information once you learn to sift through all of what is posted.

Conversely, the vast majority of firearms "consumers" know and research little before purchasing, and get most of their information to base their purchase decision on from their LGS.......which is a poor place to get info, usually.

I can tell you that ARF and TheFiringline are filled with fukking retards with no clue about the AR rifle. The Firingline was painful for me. There were only 3 or so guys who could give non-Bullshit replies.
