    1. The BCG, especially the staking on the gas key.
    2. The bolt and any markings on the bolt.
    3. The extractor spring and insert (if any).
    4. The feed ramps.
    5. The staking for the castle nut.

You got flamed because you asked for opinions and got several and blew everyone off.

This thread made me smile because my dad called me last week and asked if he should buy the Bushmaster Carbon 15 for $499.

I told him NO, those are crap. He now has a PSA lower and BCM upper on the way.

But what about those people who don't have Schulze or markm on speed dial? They would have bought the Shitmaster.

    That's a LOT of people!

If people ask me, I suggest a Colt 6920 since it is easily found in most stores, and for a great price. I, however, know that if someone shoots less than 500 rounds a year most AR's will get the job done fine.

What I tell people is that I often shoot 2-300 rounds per range session. I drive an hour to the range, so I stay for a while, and make it worth it. Considering I get a somethings three range sessions a month that ends up being a lot rounds. So, I want the best, I do not want corners to be cut.

What it comes down to is intended use. If I can pick up a cheap BM I will consider putting it through what my BCM does to see if it fails.
It is from the construction of underground FEMA camps. I can't say more because there a guy parked in front of house in an AMC Pacer. He is acting like he talking on the phone, but I know better.

I have to sign off now & put my laptop in the microwave.

This is the most annoying thing about these people. If they would just accept what they have it would not be so bad. Everytime someone has told me there junk ar is just as good as the one I over payed for I ask them if they are willing to prove it. I tell them meet me back here with 4 thousand rounds next weekend. We will shoot 2k, run your gun how it shows up. No adding lube, just run it. Whoever has the least malfunctions leaves with 2k in ammo and the firearm. Whoever loses leaves with nothing.

I have yet to have anyone take me up on this offer. I also dont have to go further than my backyard for a range nowadays.

But yet everyone else is pretty much doing the same with their posts.

Lighten up and your day will brighten up, like my momma used to say.

Truth of the matter is that as long as the weapon is fired enough to ensure reliability and properly maintained, anyone of the weapons mentioned should get you through a basic combat load in an EOTWAWKI scenario. Folks, just like deer, act the same regardless whether they are shot with a SLR15 or an Oly - they be shot.

Peoples motivations are different - I shoot a work pre-ban Oly HBAR in service rifle - it is a tack driver at 200 and 300, more than adequate for me at 500. Obviously not mil-spec but adequate for my purpose - which is not high volume shooting with THAT rifle. I wish I could tell you stories about firing 15,000 rounds a year through it, truth is it doesn't get a thousand a year.

That being said my other AR pattern rifles are all mil-spec, simply because when you build them as you go, it isn't that much more expensive.

I'm just glad folks are buying rifles and some of them are shooting and discussing them.

Don't get me wrong, a Ford Escort is still a Ford Escort, but it may be all you need, want, or can afford.

It all depends on who you trust for your info. Respected firearms instructors who see hundreds of thousands of rounds go down range a year will be a good place to start. Ask them.
