Four painfully simple rules and this guy violated THREE of them.
1. All guns are always loaded.
2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
Maybe people should start getting THAT tattooed on their body.
Sickening that the "responsible adult" tried to lay blame on the "child" because the "child" reached for the gun causing the "responsible adult" to accidentally pull the trigger on a gun he thought was unloaded.
When I was 12 I knew you NEVER pointed guns at people unless it was your intention to shoot them. Largely I blame anti gunners who have broken the chain of responsible gun ownership to the best of their ability.
I meet too many people buying their first gun as an adult who grew up in a house where "guns weren't allowed." This means nobody teaching them gun safety as a kid and reinforcing it over the years. We also don't teach gun safety the way we teach drivers education.
Can you imagine if a person had never been taught anything about driver safety, never driven a car and at the age of 25 you hand them the keys to something? Well that's basically what is happening too often with guns.
And it isn't enough to be able to "repeat" the four rules of gun safety. You have to understand why they are rules rather than inconveniences. The above situation is absolutely and completely unacceptable and there are no excuses. This is so much worse than the guy who waited for a burglar in his garage or the other guy who finished off the burglars in his basement that I don't know where to begin.

It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.
Chuck, we miss ya man.
