    shipping gun parts to alaska

This may not be the correct section for this but apparently I don't have enough posts for the general discussion section.

I'm about to PCS to Alaska, can I order gun parts, ammo, etc and have it delivered there? Not sure if Canada being in the way would cause issues.

If you're ordering online and they don't state any restrictions (which it'll be in plain view if they don't ship to AK), then you're good to go.

Alaska is home and I miss it

To answer your question, ammo must almost always be bought locally, as generally online retailers won't ship there. This is because of the difficulty of shipping ammo by air. You can use a freight forwarder from the lower 48, but their rates generally start by the pallet load and that's what the local retailers are using so there isn't much of a benefit unless you're getting very large quantities.

As for parts and accessories, Amazon Prime is the best deal in town, but they don't have everything. Be sure to include shipping costs when deciding where to order online, as it can vary greatly. In general, if they ship by USPS, it's comparable to lower 48 prices, but any other carrier charges a premium to ship to AK.

Correct. Yet, you posted in this area anyhow. Alaska is a U.S state and Canada has no impact on it.

Thanks IG... I can see his question, though, because some freight travels by road and that has to go through Canada. However, 90% of freight coming to Alaska is by ship from Seattle. Ammo is best purchased through local suppliers because shipping it by water has more regulations than by truck. Gun parts that are not the serial numbered portion of the firearm are easily sent by Priority Mail, UPS or FedEx. There are tons of FFL dealers that can handle receiving your serial numbered firearm parts.
