Too close for comfort ? Muzzle inside of the rail......

    M4C,

This is my first pistol build, and after reading the last poll regarding the most used muzzle devices, I was surprised to see how many folks are still using the A2 flash hider as a muzzle device. With that said, I put a BCM A2 flash hider on my 10.5" build. The barrel resides inside of a Rainier Arms 11" Evo handguard. I think the A2 is a hair bit too short with the openings still inside of the handguard. The last thing I want to do is to blow the end of my handguard apart.

I did intend on using a KAK Flash Can on this build. I didn't realize just how long the flash can was. After trying the KAK I was a bit disappointed in the fact that my 10.5" build was now a 13.75" build. It honestly seemed a waste to have built it when comparing the pistol next to a full 16" rifle.

Check out these pics and give me an opinion. Is the A2 too short for this build. I think the next option is a Troy Claymore , KAW Valley linear comp, Levang etc.

    What say you?

there was a thread not too long ago where someone split apart the end of their rail doing this.
I will try to see if I can find and link it. over all does not seem like a good idea.

Yes that is the one I was thinking of.
Like the other suggestions, shorter rail or longer muzzle device? Looks like his was tucked in deeper than yours is but still a risky game to play.

I have a linear compensator on my 8 in 300 blk with a 9 in rail and it works fine. I also have a 40 S&W SBR with a 4 in barrel and 7 in rail, I have a 5 1/2 in flash hider on it when the suppressor is not on it.

I think I spy a comp under that spilt rail. A BCM comp to be exact. I bet that has a lot to do with it.

However, why would you chance it? Don't ruin a rail.

I say use a longer muzzle device. You only need what, an inch?

Seems you could easily have hundreds of options available that would allow you to avoid the problem without having to change your rail.
