Anyone been through the Army's new Jungle School in Hawaii?

Read a few months back where the new JOTC (formerly at Ft. Sherman, Panama) was opening up in Hawaii. IIRC it was on the island of Kauai (?).

I've never been in a Hawaiian rainforest but did serve 3 years in Panama in an infantry unit. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that Panama's tropical rainforest is a bit thicker? Obviously some of the flora and fauna are different too, not too mention the creepy crawlies Panama had (Bushmasters and Fer-de-lances, Ranger ants, God knows what else).

However it's good to see that the Army is shedding a bit of myopic sandbox thinking by reopening a Jungle School. I wonder if it's still 3 weeks long?

EDIT........ Found an article from the Army Times written this month as a matter of fact. It's on Oahu, not Kauai. And yes, it's 3 weeks long. But scrounging up BDU's? Really?

With the exception of 25th ID dudes in Hawaii, no one else has.

I've been to RSLC and Mountain Warfare...I would kill to go to this school.

Did you go to the Mountain Warfare school in VT, summer & winter phase?

Looks like you may have the opportunity (on a unit level like they did in Panama) some day as the article says they'd like to expand it to the entire Army.

I'd like to go, but I won't lose sleep if I ETS before I get the chance. Jumpmaster and Ranger School are my priorities after this deployment since they're most relevant to my job.

I live in a Hawaiian rain forest, but I've never been to Panama.

    You're over there now?

I've been reading up on this school as I'm off to 25th later this month. I doubt I'll have priority since I'm no longer infantry, but I read that they're hoping to rotate everyone from the division through it eventually. I'd love to go.

I should say, I grew up and have my family home there, but I'm stationed in Oklahoma at this very moment.

Oh ok, judging from my thread on Hawaii I knew you had spent a lot of time there but didn't think you still were so that makes sense.
