I thought long and hard about buying an aimpoint or eotech, and I went with a T1. My reasons were:

    - I can keep it on 24/7. This is a huge deal. If I need to deploy my rifle in the middle of the night or whatever, I only have to rack the charging handle and go.

    - It's super fast and easy to adjust the brightness. While at a carbine class, the sun was behind some clouds most of the day. In between drills, the sun came out. When we started our next drill (involved a lot of moving), I shouldered my rifle and the dot was invisible! I was able to reach up and twist the nob, find the dot, and get back onto the trigger in about 1 second, all while moving.

    - It's extremely light and compact. Less weight is always nice!

Just did a rotation with a 10 year old 552. I've seen numerous double battery model examples go down, but I've seen lots not die too. This will come as a shock, but tons of Aimpoints have gone down in the real world.

Eotech battery life is plenty long. The logic that a battery must last years from a bunch of gun nerds who log round counts for every weapon they own and regularly change springs, but can't change a battery at intervals is silly to say the least. That's like the fools who manage to maintain sight alignment, press the trigger, and release a mag, but can't hit a slide release because it is "too fine a motor skill."

Aimpoint batteries last a long time, which is great, but the advertised life is longer than people will own one before they upgrade to the next new model.

Aimpoints are super durable, but they break. I saw a Comp M4 go down a few months ago. T1s go down too. It happens.

Aimpoints have been elevated to an "anointed" level around here. Despite what the detractors will tell you, an Eotech will survive gun fights and the most hardcore 3-day flat range session. The battery will give you plenty of warning, and if you want, replace it at intervals just like the oil in your truck.

What it really boils down to is whichever you prefer shooting with. I've gone back and forth between the two brands over the years. Lately I've been selling away T1s and such. Eotechs work great and I prefer shooting with them (minus when I want an off-set).

I tried to get down with a magnifier but I just couldn't. It hardly got used, and was heavy and bulky, which lead it to just get taken off the gun. If I do enough shooting at ranges when magnification is warranted, I prefer a variable or ACOG.

I vote Eotech any day of the week, especially the XPS series.

NongShim thanks for your expertise and insight. After seeing the praise on the XPS series I may give Eotech another try. For me it's kinda like going back to an ex-girlfriend after a boob job. She burned me last time, maybe the new upgrade will make it worth it.

My last experience with eotech was great. Bought a used 516.A65 that was starting to fade on one side. Called then up, had a RMA # in minutes and in the mail the same day. I had the sight fixed and back on my door step free of charge within a week. To this day the sight still works great for my father.

Some times that first impression is a lasting impression thing is really true.
If the XPS series was closer to the price of an Aimpoint pro, I'd be all over it...... Just like the ex with updates.... Lol

I've also had the pleasure to handle a 512, the 516.A65, EXPS 2.0, EXPS 3.0, Aimpoint PRO, Comp M2, comp m3, H1 and R1 micros.

My preference were the Eotech EXPS models and PRO/Comp series on my AR15's. I like the larger fov on my AR15.

I found a preference for the Aimpoint micros on my AK's using Ultimak or RS regulate mounts.

I've used EoTechs and T-1's. I do find the EOTechs more to my "liking" and my astigmatism favors the 1moa dot, but the T-1 is great with it's tiny size and battery life. I have to say finding the dot is much easier for me when doing the VTAC-type shooting positions on an EOTech compared to the T-1. The "box" of the XPS (or maybe the big ring) makes it easier for me to locate the dot.

    Key point.

Having said that, I think side buttons are important in case a magnifier is contemplated, and I prefer the QD mount and the lower third co-witness, so EXPS is the way to go for me.

The auto shutdown on the Eotechs is why I prefer Aimpoints. I want my rifle to be ready when I need it.

Good point. Ultimately, I think this is why an Aimpoint is going on my BCM. The rifle always has a loaded mag and one in the chamber, why not have an optic that's always on? Grab the rifle and flip the safety and she's hot.

LAV summed it up quite eloquently, "When it comes to red dots, there's Aimpoint then everything else".
