    Vortex Red Dots

Currently running irons for my defensive AR sighting system however they are hard to pick up in low light. Considering XS or other night sights, but they aren't much cheaper than a Vortex.

I'd get an Aimpoint but they are out of my price range and their warranty is terrible compared to Vortex. But they have the best battery life!

Looking at the Sparc II or the Razor.

I've noticed they have a blueish tint to the glass. Is this an issue?

Anyone running Vortex? I have a Viper 4-16x44 for this rifle and love it along with my Vortex binos and spotting scope.

This will probably get moved to the Optics forum. I have an aimpoint but am considering the Primary Arms MD 08 for a supplemental RDS.

You can get one with a good throw lever mount for about $150. Check out the MD 08 torture thread in the optics section.

I tried looking for an optics section and didn't see one... Oops!

The Warranty I guess is an issue if I was going to buy a used Aimpoint because it does take transfer from owner to owner. I feel better about making eBay purchases if I know I can get a deal and it's it's broke I can get it fixed.
And with Aimpoints running as much as a Glock it's tough to drop the money...

I know you get what you pay for but dang that's a ton of money after dropping two grand into the rifle.

But 50,000 hours of battery life is just crazy! So you can pretty much just leave it on for a year. No having to turn it on if you need it in the middle of the night... That's almost worth the price tag!

Just know that not all Aimpoints will be covered under warranty and if you buy a knockoff then that obviously won't be. When I bought my CompM2 (used) I called up Aimpoint to see if they could tell me if it was a knockoff or not and they mentioned that they will not service that model anymore because so many were stolen from the military.

I am also really interested in the primary arms red dot, I can't really justify $600 for a red dot and theirs seem to take more abuse than I would ever put one through.

That's the ONE major characteristic that can't be overlooked for a defensive weapon.

I've got a vortex sparc that I use for simuntion training. Their warranty covers damage done during such things. It has taken more than a few rounds to the glass both of simuntion and utm in 5.56 and 9mm. I've seen aimpoints take similiar abuse and have no issues. Eotechs on the other hand I've seen shatter from the impact. Especially from 5.56 utms. I am not knocking eotech just saying that the vortex sparc has taken a lot of abuse from incoming rounds and the rough handling that comes with simunition/cqb training and keep on trucking.

On a related note, I have no clue on quality but PA is carrying the Holosun aimpoint clone with lifetime warranty and 50,000 hour battery.

That's odd. The can tell by the serial number which ones were Military units. There's no confusion.

The Aimpoint H-1 is about right. I have a Daniel Defense V7 and I'm trying to keep this thing light.

Thanks guys, now I have to come up with $500 for one of these!
What size dots do you recommend?
Also I have an astigmatism, I'm guessing the rumor of a comet looking dot won't effect QCB performance??? I love Podunk Montana when it comes to shopping for new toys. No one stocks what you want to look at!

If you want a vortex product to put on your primary rifle, get the 1-6 Razor HD gen 2 with the Mikulek reticle. Otherwise you'd be better off saving money to get an aimpoint, cost be damned they are the most durable red dot line. I see no reason to buy or recommend anything else, and yes I do have one Eotech.
