I forget who said it, but the best welfare program ever invented is JOB CREATION. And a space program means LOTS of jobs...

OTOH, my nightmare scenario is the opportunities large-scale orbital colonies would open up to terrorists... not to mention tyranny of "he who has the oxygen makes the rules."

    Space Exploration

The SpaceX suits and uniforms look right out of Star Trek. And I was watching something about the capsules. All of the controls are touchscreens like giant iPads, just like Star Trek. Bash Tesla all you want, but Musk is smart MFer. And I think space has been the goal from the beginning. Everything else was just learning steps and funding exercises. And he’s done better in ten years than NASA/MIC in 50.

Under Trump, the focus was to return to the Moon, as a stepping stone to Mars. I hear the Biden administration may change NASA's focus to Climate Change. Under Commies, you can't have or do nice things......

Don'chaknow, Biden was already paid to cede the Red Planet to the Red Chinese...

The truly infuriating thing is we could have done that decades ago...
Heck, there were reasonably realistic plans to get to Mars post-Apollo utilizing existing Saturn V rockets and related tech.

I hope that the 'threat' of climate change actually does the opposite- since there have been several articles talking about how it's 'probably to late to stop climate change', maybe it will light a fire under the next admin's ass to GTFO this planet and start looking for other options...

Funny thing is, Climatards don't look at the longer term cycles to remember that the 1800s was a deep-freeze called the Little Ice Age we're still coming out of... infuriating is how much we're having to RE-invent because the two POS's MacNamara and Proxmire (piss be upon them) insisted on un-inventing and destroying our quantum leaps in aerospace in the '60s, between Saturn and Blackbird...

We could have launched, and now be receiving transmissions from those probes within all of our lifetimes (assuming we are gen xers), a Orion prope to our nearest neighboring stars, Alpha Centauri, but nooooo. We could still launch and have such a system of probes arrive within most of our lifetimes and see the results, but noooo. We could even reach further our than that and many of us might be alive to see those results. Alas the answer is nooooo. Instead we play games like fly by probes to Pluto, which is good; however, we could have sent a orbital probe to Pluto. I find that better than a flyby because we would have received more information with a orbital probe. This is not the days of voyager.

I realized that the Orion spaceship I was referencing is not the same as the current project by Lockheed.

According to the Dem talking points at the convention, apparently they will keep the Artemis Program along with the planning for Mars.

Let's face it, if somehow they did manage to pull off a 2024 landing with the first female on the moon, that's a huge win for them even though it got started under Trump. Remember, Nixon got the credit for the Apollo landings even though it was Johnson who rammed it through. Just like Biden or Harris will get the credit for the first woman on the Moon even though Trump made that part of his plan.

And they'll strut like peacocks for the cameras even if somebody's daughter/wife/mom ends up on a one-way trip. Because "bring them back again safe" is the REAL hard and expensive part...
