    Charles Daly Blem Review/Pics

    On 5/23/08, Charles Daly (via Michael Kassner) offered a batch of 20 cosmetic blem receivers to M4C members. Link here:

    I took two, and sent pertinents (FFL, ID, etc) hours later. I received an acknowledgement of same shortly thereafter. A very pleasant sales rep called on 5/27 for payment, and the receivers left CD shortly thereafter. I received a sales invoice from KBI on 5/31. Charges of $174 posted to my account as of today, 6/2. The receivers arrived late this morning.

    Each receiver was packaged in an uremarkable white cardboard box with a sticker displaying a simple CD logo and pertinent stock information. The receiver was wrapped in a lightweight, clear plastic bag. Included in the box were two safety pamphlets, an NRA promo card, and a CD warranty card.

    The receivers are unremarkable, and show no obvious blemish on casual inspection. One receiver displayed an area of flaw on the left side of the receiver extension upright. There was no metal deformation or similar issue. Rather, it appears that the receiver had been subjected to handling, friction, or other similar event during anodizing or storage thereafter. The other receiver displays 3-4 minor surface abrasions consistent with handling or storage wear. Certainly, there are consumers who would note the blem in the first. I suspect that the blems in the second would be unnoticed by most.

    I’ll note that I’ve received new receivers in various states of assembly that were in substantially more blemished condition, and not marked as such.

    Neither receiver has a blemish of concern to me, as function and correct dims are paramount.

    Rollmarks are the CDD logo and pertinents, and are struck evenly. They are otherwise unremarkable.

    Comparison to known-good stripped lowers on hand reveal no apparent deviations from norms. A quick check of hole dims and placement with mics reveal no preliminary concerns.

    Final Total:

    2ea stripped receiver, shipping = $174.00
    FFL transfer fee = Services rendered, net gain
    Manhours = 1hr

    I think that’s a good deal.

    Photos below. Further pertinents to follow as they’re built.
