Cpl Kyle Carpenter to receive Medal of Honor later this year

William Kyle Carpenter, a Marine Corps veteran who was severely wounded during a November 2010 grenade attack in Afghanistan, will receive the nation’s highest combat valor award later this year, Marine Corps Times has learned.

Carpenter, a 24-year-old medically retired Corporal, will become the service’s third Medal of Honor recipient from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, which date back to October 2001. The Marine Corps is finalizing plans with the White House for a ceremony in Washington, officials said.

Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers, as well as all those who protect us.

Carpenter is an animal. I have a few friends who found a lot of inspiration through him during their stays in various hospitals. The guy can still probably do more pull ups than me on a good day.

12/5 Cpl. Carpenter, well deserved recognition for an outstanding Marine.

If he can knock out 30 pullups in his condition, why did they medically retire him? Geesh, keep him in uniform, promote him to Gunny Sergeant and send him everywhere speaking to fellow Marines!

One thing I have found strange is that prior to 2001 the vast, overwhelming majority of MOH Recipients were officers.

Now, it seems to be the other way around. Wonder why...

You sure about that? Doesn't seem that way to me based on looking at this web page:

That is wonderful to hear, I am delighted that he was able to assist your friends during their recovery. Keeping one's spirits up during a long rehab is very difficult. Friends play a huge role.

I will look forward to watching the video of the ceremony.

How does fact 2 apply? It says only enlisted could earn the MOH until 1863.

If you look through some of the greatest numbers earned were from the civil war which in of itself would lead to more enlisted. Of you go to the full archive link, a and just look there is only 2-4 officers per 15 or so enlisted per page.
