So, the DoD is still finding ways to spend more money on worse results.

Mk318 is an interim solution until M855A1 is perfected, once they fix the fouling and erosion problems the Marine Corps will adopt it also.

However, there are several tens of billions of M855 in stock piles that must be shot prior to a complete transition.

The item isn't the issue. The issue is saying that dudes using something overseas makes it head to toe legit all of a sudden. I agree, the Vltor charging handle is better. My issue is with the premise that because some dude(s) took something over the pond suddenly vets it. We know that isn't the case.

Morons have taken BSA red dots to war. Contractors have been saddled with crap ARs. I've been saddled with a bunch of savages numerous times that were equipped with DPMS or RRA guns. We don't need to hash out how often I had to fix those. We all have seen plenty of companies advertise that their item is in use by [ whomever ] because of people taking their wares overseas even though the item was never actually adopted. Foreign military sales allows crap companies like the ones I mentioned to say they sold guns to SOF or military. People who haven't put in the research don't realize it isn't our SOF or military.

Yes and no. The 101st got factory M4A1's, these are the first M4A1's to come from the MWO's.

You make a good point. I personally use the VLTOR CH with the small latch.

I feel the CH and engineering behind it speaks for itself, no "were used by delta T1 DEVGRU SF" is needed in its case imo.

This was done for one reason and one reason only....MONEY. Now that this is no longer a USASOC specific item Big Army now is footing the bill for all of the USASOC M4A1s. With the current budget cuts USASOC now has a great deal of SOF specific money to spend on the stuff that we need. Basically it was a brilliant finical move from USASOC.....
In no way do I make any money from anyone related to the firearms industry.

Top is the new profile. It's a mid weight barrel.

Why the funky 203 cut behind the fsb?

The thicker profile won't actually let the 203 come up enough to be mounted against the barrel nut - so those are added so it can still accommodate an M203. The '203 can't actually fit around the thicker barrel otherwise.

You need a Mod5. The strength of a Gunfighter with a latch only slightly larger than milspec.
