I am not a fan of HBAR carbines... but I suppose it is needed if you're going to be running it on full auto and using it like a LMG?

Make mine a pencil barrel please.

    It's not a Hbar, it's a mid weight profile.

This. If you don't care for the very slightly extended latch, most multi-tools have a file on them.

I think it's pretty fair to consider the Colt SOCOM (.850" under the handguards) in the HBAR category.

Guess it depends on who you ask. Manufacturers that sell, or make the same profile consider it a Mid Weight.

Maybe the Army will get M855A1 squared away in time to be replaced by M41A Pulse Rifles.

Was there a need for more full auto rifles that screamed to be fixed?

I understand the need in an SOF unit, or even designated SOC task oriented groups organic to a deploying force. That need comes from the nature of offensive operations with less than a squad sized element. Then again, the SAW has come a long way and would be the minimum of my requirements. 6-8 round burst, reassess, realign sights. That's four to five trigger pulls before reloading. Meh.

Another gov funded hardware solution to a software problem. While I was never in the 1st ID, I was also more satisfied with semi-auto. In fact I never fired in burst, except in training. It's a point target weapon, and many units across the mil in general would do better to focus on marksmanship and fire discipline. The few incidents I can think of that lead to the clamor of a replacement to the M4/M16 would have been more disastrous if FA existed in every rifle. The problem hasn't been one of not being able to dump ammo fast enough, it was making the rounds fired matter.

Simple, The burst trigger has three different trigger pulls and is more complex. The standard auto trigger has one trigger pull and is simplistic and has less parts.

From a mechanical standpoint, yes. The Mk12s we had were FA and had a noticeably better trigger pull.

The mil got away from the original Automatic AR for a reason, and I see it becoming an issue again. I was never a fan of burst either, and would have gladly given up that capability for a better semi trigger.

FWIW-The personnel in question were SF members and I know simply because I was the one who supplied them with them as well as some stocks for their weapons.

Morons have taken BSA red dots to war. Contractors have been saddled with crap ARs. I've been saddled with a bunch of savages numerous times that were equipped with DPMS or RRA guns. We don't need to hash out how often I had to fix those. We all have seen plenty of companies advertise that their item is in use by [ whomever ] because of people taking their wares overseas even though the item was never actually adopted. Foreign military sales allows crap companies like the ones I mentioned to say they sold guns to SOF or military. People who haven't put in the research don't realize it isn't our SOF or military.
