Can anyone actually honestly say they noticed the crappy trigger pull in a fire fight?

Well, that's the problem. You shouldn't be dangling that thing like an ijit with a pistol. Sling it, carry it at high port or ready, or put it down.

If you are not careful your pants will bump the charging handle and disengage it.

Instead of holding the rifle against my leg, I leaned it out a little bit so the handle was not rubbing my pants. That pretty much fixed the problem.

I am off work tomorrow. I am going to take my rifle out on a trip along the creek looking for fox tracks.

I'm with you on this one. The barrel profile looks to be almost identical to the profile of a Colt HBAR that I once owned. It's not a medium barrel...

Another gov funded hardware solution to a software problem. While I was never in the 1st ID, I was also more satisfied with semi-auto. In fact I never fired in burst, except in training. It's a point target weapon, and many units across the mil in general would do better to focus on marksmanship and fire discipline. The few incidents I can think of that lead to the clamor of a replacement to the M4/M16 would have been more disastrous if FA existed in every rifle. The problem hasn't been one of not being able to dump ammo fast enough, it was making the rounds fired matter.
In general, you're right. But that doesn't change the fact that the current profile is a stupid one.

Totally off topic question, but what is he deal with all the contour changes in front of the FSP. Are those more 203 items or just someone ratcheting up the machining time?

I have a BCM. Mod 4 and have yet to have a premature bolt manipulation, but then again I don't swim out torpedo tubes or carry my carbine in my hand often. If it's out its slung across my front on a 2 point sling. My moobs have yet to activate it.

I've never been shot at so my comments below are to be taken as such. I've handled a burst trigger and a FA trigger and given the choice if stick with the FA or simple semi trigger. IMO the burst trigger was a mechanical solution for a training issue and adds a lot of complication to the FCG. KISS rules the day and the FA is simpler in design.

Probably not. But it could still be responsible for misses at range. Having worked out in the rural farmlands of Iraq I would say that a better trigger would lead to more hits at some of the ranges we shot at.

Why stick with a crappier more complex trigger, when a better and more simplistic one exists?

The step in front of the FSB is for the M203 bracket. The cut behind the FSB is so you can get the mount over the barrel and onto the barrel nut.

I just don't think the changes are really worth the costs. Look at it this way our biggest killer small arms are our Machine guns and they all have crappy triggers.

The current incarnation of trigger mechanism may not be best, but in having signing for thousands of A2s, A4s, and M4s in the last 20 years. I can only remember 1 deadlined for a trigger, it was a M203 that had its pins walk out on it; and I suspect the owner was disassembling it to clean under the fire control.

Larry Vickers specifically had BCM create a Mod 5 version of their CH with a smaller latch to reduce chances of accidental out of battery issues. I have one of these Mod 5 and I think it makes lots of sense.
