That'll be nice to see testing results from an actual failed bolt. I've got one of the same bolts plus some $20 something I got from weapon outfitters that literally only had 9310 and MPI listed as info known about them. Don't know if ill ever be comfortable with using them. I thought them coming from a reputable dealer was enough when I bought them but these bolts may be the exception to the rule.

Yeah, the wife has an older RA HP/MPI made from C158. The bolt has over 4k rounds on it with no issues.

    C158 is a known quantity.

I have a NiB from RA, probably only 500 rounds, but great so far. Sitting inna BCM BCG; that bolt is in my spares bucket. Thought I would try it given the price point.

Rainier does sell quality products. They have sold C158 and 9310 bolts on and off. I would be willing to bet if markm contacted them, they would replace it. Just because one bolt failed doesn't mean they all will.

I've seen all kinds of wacky failures from bolts produced after the 2012 panic.

9310 bolts that were too brittle and cracked after 2000 rounds, 9310 bolts that were too soft so the lugs deformed resulting in excess head space and brass failures (aka, kabooms), 4140 bolts... yes, that's not a typo: another company actually sent in a failed bolt to a lab and found out that bolts were being made in 4140 steel, wholly unaccepatble for bolt duty.

Go Carpenter 158 or go home. I don't trust reseller brands unless they can tell me which subcontractor made their bolts for em... in Carpenter 158.

I know they have some good stuff, I love my 18" ultramatch barrel and 15" Evo rail but I was a bit skeptical on their bolts and at a normal price I might as well go with BCM with a strong reputation.

Since they stopped selling C158 bolts, I just buy LMT bolts from Grant.

I'm just getting back into AR's so go easy on me, k? I've got 3 new 6920's inbound and would like to pick up a spare bolt to put back "just in case." I certainly understand the reasons for going w/Colt or similar quality, but what's the downside to something like this?: http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.as...lt&groupid=723
    Thx...

Exactly. We don't know yet why this broke. May have just been an isolated deal. I'm sure Rainier would replace it, but I'm more interested in the research side of it.
