I don't post much here, but anyhow, I think you only need to leave the receiver in the safe deposit box.
It might be a pain to take the stock off every time you put it in the box, but an AR receiver should fit in one of the smallest safe deposit boxes available, which are usually much cheaper than $90 a year (I'm sure this varies greatly by bank, but ours is about 5x2x10, would easily fit a receiver, and I think is about $12 or $15 a year.
