glad I asked. Thanks for the information. Seems it needs cleaning even more than the bore. Looks like there are lots of ways to get it done

I agree. Most of the problems I've seen people have are from dirty chambers and bolts. I was taught at a young age if you shoot it clean it. Figured the Military must be on to something if we had to clean our weapons every time we took them out (besides just keeping us busy). Spent 3 years in the sht,a dirty weapon can get you killed.

What gets me the most are the ones that have them for SHTF or HD and don't take care of them. If things go bad, there ain't gonna be an invite to the fight. Not to mention any time outs cuz they aren't ready or hit the replay button.

If I'm cleaning it, GI chamber brush in the chamber, boresnake in the bore. I haven't used a rod, patch, jag, etc in years.

A spray of brake cleaner in the chamber followed by some q tips and compressed air.

Good question, I have thought the same but never asked. Guess I'll start cleaning it more thoroughly now instead of just spraying it. The Dewey rod and brush is what I bought but have used little, up to this point.

If I want to clean the heck out of my AR, I coat everything with bore cleaner, let it work on the crud, scrub it all down to get everything loosened and broken loose, then blast everything with brake cleaner and relube it all.

You can find all the information you want on bore cleaning

but my question is about the chamber itself. When you use a bore guide you completely bypass the chamber.

How many of you actually clean the chamber of your rifles?

How do you that do clean the chamber do it? Chamber Brush? Chamber swab? How often?

Bore snakes? Oh Lord. That's a futile exercise in futility.
