    What Unit Is This ?

I was going through some old pics I had on photobucket and came across this one of a French soldier and i know how easy it is to make fun of the French but this guy looks like a serious badass trooper !! I doubt there are very many smartasses out there cracking the usual French military jokes to this guy

I have almost no knowledge of french units and was wondering what unit this guy is from ? Is he a Legion trooper or possibly a French marine ?

The small shoulder patch with anchor is Troupes de marine, think para Marines.

That guy's skin tone, physique, and ink leads me to believe that he is Māori.

Heard a joke today forgot exactly how it went though:

"The french often have weapons auctions, rifles in great firing condition! Just a few scratches from being dropped when the french run away!!!!"

    White flags and dropped rifles?

    Part 3

If you're going to make fun, probably best to do so at the expense of the Italians....

People also seem to forget French domination during the Napoleon era.

The French Marine Commandos are a good bunch of dudes. The French people in general...well...glass houses, best not throw stones and all that.
