American Hustle. Best movie I have seen in years. Based on a true story, sorta of Good Fellas (without the violence) meets The Sting. A+
How this movie, or Bale, didn't win the Oscar I'll never understand. I still remember the vids as a kid of the Congressman taking the $$$ shown on the news. Some of you may be too young to remember ABSCAM

Yup, we really enjoyed it. Outstanding performances by all and one hell of a cast. At first I thought Bale was wearing a fat suit for the pool scene. Nope, that was all him he blew up for this role after getting ripped for the Dark Knight movies.

I also enjoyed the movie. Its always interesting to see something based on history I lived through.

I liked it a lot. Couldn't hell but notice the numerous Quinten Tarantino and Scorsese allusions. Especially the camera looking out of the trunk shot used in numerous Tarantino movies. The whole tempo of the movie was Scorsese

I don't think Tarantino invented that shot/camera view. It did, as mentioned, have a real Scorsese/Goodfellas look/feel to it, which is a high compliment for any movie.Originally Posted by OldState

He didn't invent it, but he is the director known for it....kinda like how Brooks Brothers invented the "polo" shirt and Ralph Lauren licenses the name...or Colt and the 1911.
And again, totally agree on the Scorsese feel. So much it was definitely intentional.

Interesting. The homage to Scorsese was obvious to me, but I didn't see any Tarantino myself. Not a big fan of Tarantino (he runs 50/50 for me) so maybe I didn't wanna see it. As for the comments of the author of that article about the outfits being over the top, I bet the author didn't grow up in NY during the 70s in Italian areas of the city. I did. and they are not as over the top as he make think.

This is one of two movies that impressed me, the other being The Wolf of Wall Street. That is another one that felt a bit like Goodfellas, perhaps a bit more like Casino.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.
