You can get both. I have one in the work car and it is the best I've seen.

I'm bumping this with specific questions, geared towards LEO.

Since the hillbilly method I've used is working, but less than ideal, I'm shopping for some of the LEO-Specific vehicle racks (Santa Cruz, Blue Sky, etc.).

I'm looking at the electronic models, specifically, but not necessarily for the intended use of wiring it in.

Most of the LEO racks, while less covert, offer what I perceive to be superior security.

Are there any things to look out for? Any issues with aftermarket Picatinny rails, etc? Any conflicts with VLTOR A5 equipped setups?

Are any of the systems you're using compatible with both A2-style Rifles AND M4 Style Carbines? Any issues with shorties?

These things are NOT cheap, and I'd like to make an informed decision before I drop coin on a dedicated/integrated system.

Right now I'm leaning heavily towards the ELS 270A from Big Sky:

Kind of a follow up on our PM's - I bought an overhead rack at government auction which our Department of Wildlife and parks had used in the Conservation Officer's pickups. It was a dual set up for shotgun and M14 rifle. At the time I wanted it for a shotgun, but never did mount it. When I got to thinking about how to go about mounting and wiring it, I realized that even though my truck doesn't sit high, most folks 5'10ish or less would be able to see the rack with a casual glance. My back passenger windows have the heaviest legal tint, but you could see it from the front.

How about something over the visor:

That shelf is interesting for some other ideas I have for the truck...support gear, etc.

The benefit to having a regular cab, I have a large horizontal space, where the rifle is now. Easy enough to cover it up with crap, for concealment. It's basically too small for anything worth a damn back there, but a rifle fits rather nicely, and out of sight.

I got one of these a couple of weeks ago. http://www.du-ha.com/20075_20076_200...079_20080.html
It has a gun rack in it but I can't lock it. The back seats on my F150 crew cab flip up and I was about to tape velcro to the bottom of the larger portion of the seat to carry a 16" rifle. The Du-Ha holds tools and truck stuff along with an AR with a couple of mags.
