The only way they'd pull this stunt is if her emails are so bad and incriminating playing this game that everyone knows is BS is the better outcome.

As for getting caught in a lie? Hasn't stopped any of them even under oath. Nothing ever happens to them. Why stop now? Those laws about lying under oath, in practice, don't apply to gov employees especially if they're lying to protect the gov itself.

This has got to be the stupidest lie I've heard yet. No if's ands or buts, it is a LIE. All those emails went through a server and they're willfully and intentionally obfuscating. They have them, but they don't want to release them. Even a junior IT person could tell you that.

The problem is this, politicians come to believe they can do anything.

They have been taught that double speak is accepted and non answers fly right over the heads of most critics. And even if you call them on the bullshit, who is there to take them to task? Other politicians? Other members of government? There is no real oversight or accountability except the media and those who aren't in their pocket are marginalized to right wing wacko nuts.

The ONLY time the media called anyone on their bullshit was when the media discovered the NSA had screwed with THEIR Constitutional rights. Then it was game on for about a week, the proper people were blown or otherwise compensated and it was back to business talking about Hillary's exciting new campaign prospects, Obama's mastery of global politics and how evil Republicans are trying to screw it all up.

We are talking about deliberately concealed emails. Nobody is dead. Hell a bridge didn't even get backed up for a couple days. Lost emails related to a story 99% of American doesn't even know about isn't going to amount to anything.

In fact the IRS could come out and state "We did it on purpose, because we don't like this person's politics" and even then NOTHING would happen. We just went through this crap a couple years ago where it was shown the IRS targeted certain individuals at the direction of the Obama administration.

Nothing happened then, nothing is going to happen now and I really, really wish I had a better answer than that.

I can tell you from personal experience, you do NOT want to be in a meeting with your Chief Legal Officer and hear somebody say the words "Um, we can't find the emails". Remember those Hitler rant videos? That was a Oprah Winfrey poetry recital compared to what you will hear come from that lawyer's mouth.
Came here basically to say this. Few things I'd consider myself to be a SME on, but this is one. They're so full of shit it's absurd. There's no way they LOST the emails, it's such a huge pain in the ass to delete something like that it would absolutely have to be deliberate and intentional.

Given that the IRS has systems and systems set up to keep every shred of correspondence and email (along with every tax return every American has ever sent them in both electrons and paper), the claim they've lost her email goes so far beyond ridiculous...I'm waiting for Hillary to say..."what does it matter?" And, for Obama voters, they are probably laughing "yeah he did it, but those nasty conservatives and Tea Party DESERVE it".....We are playing by the rules, they are NOT...

Why has it taken this long for Darrell Issa to request the emails? This investigation into the IRS/Tea Party has been effed up since the beginning. I have lost any hope that those responsible will actually pay a price

Haul the CIO of the IRS in front of congress and depose him legally. I bet you those emails reappear pretty quickly. Basically tell him either those emails show up or you prepare to spend time in prison.

Who's going to prosecute the case?
