    Arsenal vs. ak-103/AKUSA

I got a good deal and bought a bunch of AK mags (7.62), so now figure that I would need something to go with them. I am looking for a quality (Bulgarian? milled receiver? chrome-lined?) AK thats less than $1k.

Chris (ak-103.com) stated on his site that his AK-103 is a legal duplicate of the Russian AK-103. What does that mean? I noticed that his receiver is stamped, and not reinforced like the Bulgarian, does that matter?

    Thanks!

That statement really does not mean anything.

You may want to check out an Arsenal, Inc. SLR-107FR.

    Arsenal SLR-107FR (AK-103 clone)

Factory built at Arsenal Bulgaria and "unbanned" at Arsenal Inc.
    1mm Stamped receiver (Bulgarian)
16" cold hammer forged chrome lined barrel
24mm front sight block with either a flash suppressor or muzzle brake
accepts all military AK 7.62x39mm mags
side folding AK 100 series polymer stock
crappy Bulgarian military finish, which does not hold up well to harsh US solvents (CLP is fine though).

    AK-USA AK-103

    Russian SAIGA base rifle
    1mm stamped receiver
16" cold hammer forged chrome lined barrel.
Chamber might have a ridge in it that marks the cases, that's not a deal breaker, it's a Russian thing for civillian rifles
Chris Butler unbans the SAIGA and refits it to a close clone of the Izmash AK-103
accepts all standard military 7.62x39mm mags
custom enamel/powder coat finish, very tough and attractive

I don't think you'll get a Chris Butler AK-103 for less than $1K, but ask. The Arsenal SLR-107's are great guns for the money, although the first ones had some teething issues that were soon fixed.

Hmmm...based on what you ask,I would say the best bet would be an SLR107FR. I have a Chris Butler AK-103 and while absoultely magnificent, it is more than your budget. You may be able to get onof his 103s for close to $1K, but they can get quite priceywhen you start adding details to it. Mine does not mark the case by the way.

Your rifle looks absolutely killer. I also agree with your advice.
