Here are the photos of the HK barrel end after a month in salt water and almost 2 months out without cleaning. Also from a machinist point of view, it is some of the toughest steel to turn down in a lathe. The only steel I have seen remotely as tough was a Sako TRG-42. I will get photos of the FH barrel up ASAP. I have to go get it from my shop. If you want to wait a month, I can put it back in salt water, other than that I suggest you go buy your own before making such an OPINION known.

As far as the "people" that you speak of that wanted a civilian 416 and not a match barreled rifle... We had a meeting,it was unanimous, please don't speak for us!! If you want a 416, you can buy them. They cost upward of $5k for an upper and $10k for one of the few hundred semi autos that were up for sale in Texas a few months ago. If you go buy one, then please feel free to gripe all you want, but until you do, don't point out things you hear as being facts. I, along with many more own the HK MR556 and gotta call BS on the majority of your reasons. I promise, I am not trying to be mean, but it irks me when people grip about something and think they speak for everyone, and it's nothing more than personal opinion anyway.

Excuse the quality of the photos, they were taken a few minutes ago with my IPAD. I only had this piece of barrel here because of the way it held up. (The FN barrel only rusted where the fresh cut to shorten it was). I will try a Colt next as I have a friends barrel waiting to be cut.

BTW here is the rifle, pistol build, and upper I speak of. Top upper was re profiled by Jason at IGF, complete rifle has a 14.5" that I cut and profiled and the bottom is a 10.4" pistol build which I did. I also have a true 416 14.5" barrel only.

So you gathered every person in the country and had a vote on what you all wanted from HK and i'm the only person in the entire country that feels this way? Yeah. I'm sure.

Showing pictures of a cut barrel does nothing to prove it went through the tests you claim. You're claiming that this untreated and uncoated wonder barrel has better corrosion resistance than stainless, forgive me if i have a hard time believing you.

The things i pointed out about the rifle itself weren't opinions. They ARE facts. How I feel about them, are opinions. As well as the opinions of many other people i've spoken to or read on forums over the past few years. Which is the entire freaken point i'm trying to make.

Oh and don't tell me you wanted a thick ass match profile barrel in an assualt rifle after you make a post in another thread saying you re-profiled your 16" barrel. Your own actions disprove your claims.

The problem with this, as we have seen in numerous threads now, is that meloniting a barrel after it has already had the barrel extension installed and drilled for a gas port may result in a slew of problems... primarily, the barrel extension coming loose as a result of the process and then not being able to retorque the barrel in such a way that the gas port is properly aligned.

Well, now that this thread has nearly gone to hell, OP did you buy the PWS yet?
    Reads a lot, posts little.

With hk's pricing, it's pretty obvious they don't want to sell to the masses.
    This is pure ludicrousness.

People who make these kinds if statements prove that they have no idea what's required to bring a firearm into the USA.

I will send an email to Jayson at IGF to inquire about this very subject. Granted, he sends the barrels out for nitriding.

Guys you're great, but you're just tossing Dorito's under the bridge!

I was defending match barrel. The non-chrome lining was my preference, and the way they hold up. Just like Noveske and others than use non-chrome lined in their most accurate rifles. I had mine cut down to the SOCOM profile. I also have a SS 20" AR that I turned to an M-16A1 profile. I didn't say it wasn't heavy. I just said that people knew that when they were released. As far as the salt water, I could care less if you believe the tests or not, you closed your mind to the rifles without owning one. The steel in the barrels is proven to be stronger (and proprietary to Hk). Read about Hk steel barrels, they have used a proprietary steel for years. Coming from turning barrels, there is only one other barrel I have seen that has steel as tough. Seriously though I don't own an assault rifle, all of my AR's are semi automatic. So quit with the non-sense.

I apologize to the board for the off-topic discussion and to the OP for the drift from the subject. I am done even remotely trying to debate with fact/opinion views. I still stand by my original suggestion of a PWS because of what you are specifically looking for. The Hk is a great rifle, but is heavier than you seem to want. I apologize for contributing to the thread going to hell. I just wanted opinions to be called that, not stated as facts.
