Does the law say one "may" fire a warning shot, and if so, it is legal?

I can already hear the clamor from Moms Ignoring Reality: "Why didn't you fire a warning shot? Why didn't you fire a second warning shot?"

    Good and bad news.

Thankfully there is no "warning" requirement to stand your ground so that doesn't change much. This one basically protects people who are actually being threatened but still have a small window before deadly force is required to deter their attackers.

Previously, if you fired a warning shot it was used as justification to prove deadly force wasn't required which is of course nonsense and there are endless scenarios where a warning shot is possible even when the requirements for deadly force have been met.

The downside is every retard in FL, and we have quite a few, will now feel authorized to shoot one in the air or in the ground to show "they mean business" every time kids egg their house on Halloween.

The best thing this new law does is eliminate the consequences for kids who make gun shapes out of pop tarts or point their fingers and go "bang."

You are still liable for where that bullet goes.

There I was, gun drawn on someone who I'm pretty sure is about to kill or grievously wound me, trying to remember which floor I'm on, what's on the other side of that wall, or that wall, or that wall. Will that chimney stop this 147? Will that metal thing? Should I try to shoot out the window? Oh nevermind, don't need to worry about it: I'm dead and my wife is being raped to death.

Yep, sometimes it's just best to use the bad guy for a back stop. No arguing that.

Exactly right. That is another of my major worries about this as well.

More importantly... firearms are not signaling devices.

I always felt the first one that hits the BG is a warning shot. If you are still around after that, you've been warned. Easy to remember.
