I only made a few for my own use and-- honestly I can't see any real market for them. At least there shouldn't be-- the real answer is change 'em out for something safe and polite. The RRA comp and Mini "Y" comp (the "WHY!?" comp) are different diameters, couldn't tell ya what they are but I think the RRA is standard 22mm, anyway the sleeves are a straight bore through.

With A1 and A2 flash hiders going for $10 or so most places, anyone can afford to be good to his line mates.

.....all coming from a guy who has been making AR15 muzzle brakes since about 1983. I don't think I've sold four of mine in the last two years-- maybe because I keep telling people not to use them!

If I ever have to use it--as Buford T. Justice has pointed out--as an officer who patrols alone--I'd rather have the faster follow up shots. I'm not going to be in a team or on a line when I need it.
It sucks for those in a class near me, but I'd prefer to practice in as real a scenario as possible. In a recent class, there were tons of brakes, but only the guy next to me with the brakeout on the 10.5" barrel WAS really bad (knocking debris and a shock wave into my face)...so we just took turns with him shoooting and then me going after him, and vice versa...maybe 10-15% of the time one of us was the last to finish the 5 or 10rd string, but it worked.
I came away determined to get rid of my SFs, but when I remembered it was a 10.5" barrel, I changed my mind. I'll take any advantage I can get, and it seems most of the "improvements" coming to the SD and tactical world are coming from the competition guys (red dots, brakes, etc.). I DO like the idea of a shroud for crowded classes, but so far none of the companies who make shrouds have made one for SF.

Advantage (unless you don't want the giant fireball giving away your location) outdoors, and but I don't see any advantage indoors when you are flash banging yourself in hopes of a millisecond faster follow up shot

Well, the fireball would be mitigated very well by an FSC556, but I'm just not that concerned about giving away my position or the busted eardrums in a Home Defense situation (which I'd probably use the Glock 19 with its 32rd mag for anyway, since it's handier in this small house with narrow doorways)--though the electronic ears are hanging right next to the AR just in case (it would still hurt). Besides, I really doubt there'd be MUCH difference between an A2 and a SF in a 10'x12' room.

In reality, I personally am just not too worried about protracted gun battles outside at night against more than one adversary, so the SF makes more sense for me as a hobbyist, 2-gunner, and course-taker. I suppose there is a .000001% chance that scenario could happen, and I'll just have to cross that bridge when I get to it. (But hopefully by then I'll have a suppressed 300AAC upper!!)

Any 5.56 AR going off in an enclosed space will exceed 165 dB. This is deep into permanent hearing damage territory. This means a 20" with an A2.

I've been inside a small shoothouse with ear pro more times than I can count (not bragging, just speaking from experience). At that point, you're dealing with a pressure wave front and it's spherical.

Anything but a suppressor will be rough. And even suppressors cause a noted spike in bass frequencies (low frequency pressure). You'd be fascinated by the 10 to 50 hz thump some suppressor, ammo, and gun combos create.

EDIT: When I go to a class, I play by their rules. Period. But my true setup is with a brake because I'm too lazy and don't have the funds for a suppressor right now.

Actually, I have thought that this type of sleeve (or something similar) would be good for a dual purpose competition/home defense gun. So there might be a small but decent market for them. That being said, I wouldn't pay a lot of money for it. It would also have to be reasonably secure when mounted.

I have seen one design that threads on to a brake/comp. But you are limited to that specific brake/comp.

Even making them no-frills like I did I would still not be able to fit it in. Making them nicer and lighter and putting a finish on them and making them for two or three different diameter brakes-- and maybe a more sophisticated attachment method-- if somebody else does it more power to 'em.

I loved my FSC, but recently had to remove it from a 14.5 bcm middy to allow for a 556 Tactical Evo Keymod rail. Going with a Rainier XTC cuz a guy was practically giving it away.....Time will tell how it performs.

I take it the KX3 wouldn't be of much benefit in a small room?
