Army looking at compact sniper rifle

    http://kitup.military.com/2014/06/ar...to-sniper.html

The U.S. Army has invited gun makers compete for the chance to build a compact version of the service’s M110 Semi Automatic Sniper System.

The service released a formal request for proposal which could lead to a contract award of $44.5 million to buy about 3,600 Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper Systems, or CSASS. Gun makers have until Oct. 10 to submit proposals.
    And the FBO solicitation:

For anyone in the know, is this going to replace or supplement the M110?

That is a killer deal of $12,222.22 per unit.

Sorry $12,361.11, was using just 44 million on the first figure.

Why don't we just retrofit our M110s with collapsing stocks and change the upper? The only thing is the existing M110 cans will likely be impossible to retrofit to a shorter barrel/gas block combo and we'd probably have to drop the coin for new cans. But, put the money saved towards better glass and PVS-24s.

I'm sure I have no idea what I'm talking about, but I don't see why this should cost so much money when a solution could be that easy.

The Mk20 SCAR would give the M110 a run for its money.

I was being a little tongue-in-cheek, which never comes across online. This was the rifle Jason Bourne used in the last Bourne movie.
