I'm not sure he actually made any mistakes. It is entirely likely that nobody, regardless of any LEO or military status, would have correctly identified her as a threat.

We all understand that "anyone" can be a threat, but when bullets start flying a lot of people will immediately go into rescue / protection mode for women and children. This was a huge problem in the late 70s and early 80s when dealing with groups like Baader Meinhoff where the shooters frequently ended up being females.

The only thing I can maybe fault him on is not watching his rear, but it's really, really easy to get tunnel vision and focus on the known bad guy.

It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

I'm glad to see the man publicly honored, and glad to see LE standing up for a good guy even though he may not have technically been "one of theirs".

I'm still torn up that this man died trying to do a selfless good deed. I agree that he deserves a heroes burial and tribute.

As expected, the anti gun/anti Liberty types are using this event as proof of the failure of civilians being effective in such an event. They always do avoid the facts in such discussions. I do think their doing that will back fire on them as most people at the very least - regardless of where they stand on guns - will find it in poor taste to use Wilcox for their anti gun agenda, and no on in LE (other than perhaps some higher ups appointed by anti gun/anti Liberty politicians...) will agree with it.

If they use Wilcox for their agenda, I think it will turn many on the fence on the issue against them and will expose them as opportunists they are looking to use a tragedy to forward their agenda.

The local TV media, from what I saw, dismissed his actions and only focused on the 2 police officers who lost their lives. Not once did I see it mentioned that he actually took action and tried to prevent the 2 shitbirds from taking any more innocent lives.

However, when I'm driving, I geek out on talk radio and he was hailed as a hero, along with the officers, by several of our local talk jocks. So, talk radio gave him his due but local TV basically treated him as just another shooting victim and only focused on the fallen officers.

There has been a ton of support here locally for all 3 of the victims. May they rest in peace and their families find solace in an incredibly difficult time.

Good to hear, thanks for commenting on that as outside of LV we here nothing about this.

We seem to have had quite a few incidents here lately... Maybe it's the hot weather bringing out the wackos. Metro had another OIS today.
