It's just becoming too much work to try and buy a Colt SBR at FFL pricing. Meanwhile Daniel Defense Mk18s are everywhere for $1,200.00 in stock and ready to roll. I'm gonna try a few more sources Monday for a Colt 6945 but if they prove to be unobatnium at dealer price then I'm just grabbing the DD.
If it helps, my MK18 upper "might" be over gassed, but has functioned 100% in my pistol setup. I don't notice any excessive wear on any of the components. I do not have a high round count on the upper however, so time may tell.

I know it's not FFL pricing, but DSG Arms has the 6945 for $1,280:

I have a DD MK18. Slightly over gassed, but I only run .223 ammo (dept issued) so it's not as big of a concern to me. That being said, most people would be better served with an 11.5 probably. I only chose a 10.3 because I deploy from a cramped, medium sized car with typical engagement ranges much less than 100 yards

This is what I would do if picking up a DD MK18.

OK, after much research I discovered what I really want is a Colt 6943 which is the 11.5" barrel model.

I then called all of my wholesalers looking for a 6943, or at least a 6945, and discovered Colt is up to shenanigans again. Turns out for NFA weapons like SBRs Colt is requiring a PD letterhead for purchase. This is why 80% of my wholesalers no longer offer Colt SBRs like 6933s and those who show them as simply "out of stock" explained they won't be getting any more.

To quote one long time supplier "Colt has simply become a pain in the ass with respect to SBRs so we dropped them." Basically Colt has gone "agency only" with respect to SBRs or if I have a authorized letter for purchase I can special order one kind of like what is needed for post sample machine guns.

Of course some suppliers such as SAW seem to be exempt for some reason, but they aren't exactly a FFL wholesaler either. There are a few other places that are somehow getting them and reselling without a LE love letter and I found a 6945 close enough to dealer price that I just grabbed it since I don't think Colt SBRs are going to get easier to obtain in the future.

I think the DDMK18 will always be there if I want one for some reason, and whileI'm sure it isn't difficult, I wasn't crazy about the idea of having to swap gas ports to make the damn thing run right. Too bad DD can't just start making them correctly to begin with, it would have been an easy no brainer purchase for me and everyone of my customers who comes looking for a Mk18 type rifle.

At any rate, I have another Colt in the stable, or at least I will when it gets here. Thanks to everyone for getting me caught up and current. In several months I'll be back asking annoying questions like "what light mount is that" and such.

You could always get a colt 6920 and have it cut down to 10.3 and rethreaded. Also get gas port opened to the correct .070.

By the time you add rails and such it would be cheaper to just buy the 6945.
