Yeah... that ACOG is horrible at contact distance. It slows you down quite a bit.... a second or so... which doesn't sound like much, but an eternity if you need to shoot somebody a few yards away.

I personally like having more eye relief. And some of the ACOGs are specifically noted as being good for BAC (basically both eyes open shooting). I assume they would have a larger reticle and longer eye relief.

This question probably seems non-sense to you, but I'm looking for answers from someone who has extensive experience with them.
There are tricks. If you can get used to the BAC system it is not bad. I am probably only tenths of a second slower with an acog compared to a RDS at close range. If distances are real close, you could just look over the optic. and still make minute of man.

I can still crank out softball sized 30rd groups up close doing Table III drills in a pretty good amount of time - I am really comfortable on BAC optics, especially both eyes open - and that difference is minor, but even being relatively quick and totally accustomed to that compact eye relief setup, I'd rather have the quicker setup, even if it means giving up the BDC. It's just that range of 10-25 yards where getting accustomed to that zoom and trying to sort between just occluded snap shooting and actually using the picture through the optic side that's super rough.
