Who has ever used the black nylon strap they call a sling anyway?

The box indicates that it's a 2013 configuration, whatever that means. The lower receiver is marked M4 which is nice. Oddly, the front edges of the lower receiver are pretty squared off. On my other Colts (and all other AR15's) the front edges are rounded some.

It came with a Magpul magazine instead of a Colt branded magazine. I'm guessing that's a simple cost cutting measure. It didn't come with a detachable carry handle, but instead came with a Magpul rear sight. I knew this going in and think it's a smart move on Colt's part. Most people mount an optic and need a BUIS, so they'd rather pay for a configuration they're going to use instead of a carry handle that they're not going to use. The odd thing is that it didn't come with a sling like my other Colts. Even more odd, it did come with a push button QD sling swivel (in the sealed bag). Why would they include a QD sling swivel and not a sling? I can't even find a place to attach the thing. What am I missing here?
    History lesson.

2012 model dropped the carry handle and added the Magpul MBUS. The factory USGI stock was replaced with the Rogers. This stock turned out to be a POS, but it has a QD socket in it so Colt included QD swivels. The 2012 year also dropped the cleaning kit and sling.

2013 model dropped the Rogers stock and for whatever reason kept the QD swivels. Consider them a gift from Colt.

May I ask what the particular problem was with the Rogers stock? I ask because you originally said this about the stock:

This stock is a vast improvement over the standard USGI. Features a locking system, QD swivel connections and a rubber buttpad.
I never liked the stock and was not overly impressed with all the moving parts it had.

They didn't hold up. On paper, they offered better options, but unfortunately they were not reliable.

When we first wrote our comments on them, they had just been fielded by Colt and there was little to no knowledge available on their reliability.

One major thing about them was the QD socket had a habit of popping off when slung.

I received the Colt coat a couple of days ago. Again, thanks for pointing out the offer. I owe you one.

My pleasure sir, just trying to payback this great forum for all the information that I have been given so freely.

Glad I saw this, helps make sense of something that had me rather upset not too long ago. Grant's comments too.

Like so many updated products which are supposed to be better I guess it's easy come easy go and suddenly what seemed inferior isn't so bad anymore.
