This thing is just plain scary. Looks really freaking deep too. The video of the fly over gets a good shot inside the hole and the pictures have good views from the edge.

No dude is going to get shot in the chest at 300 yards and look down and say "What is that, a 3 MOA group?"
Dem crazy russians...
I wanna see something large, scaly, multi-tentacled, and prehistoric crawl out of it now....no, not Hillary Clinton, but you know what I mean.
To me that looks like something came out as opposed to earth falling in. The edges of the hole are raised up higher than the surrounding land and their is a ton of earth pushed out around the outside of the hole. Google sinkholes and look at the images, none that I could find have the characteristics of this one.
I see that they are already suggesting that something was ejected (gases) from this hole unlike your standard sinkhole. I guess this happened too early or we would have know the location of Howard Stern when we decided to shoot down the Malaysian Airliner.

"If you love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen"
-Samuel Adams, 1776
Geologically speaking, no. The Yamal peninsula is an area with massive natural gas reserves (hundreds of trillions of cubic feet of methane), much of it in relatively shallow reservoirs, overlain by arctic tundra and permafrost. Weird shit happens. And with some of the most isolated areas on the planet now being observed by anybody with an internet connection, we get a bird's eye view of the weirdness more often.
And, for those wishing to bone up on their glacial geomorphology, how about a pingo?
http://media.smh.com.au/news/world-n...d-5600293.html
"A pingo is a block of ice that’s grown into a small hill in the frozen arctic ground. The ice can eventually push through the earth and when it melts away it leaves an exposed crater. Dr Fogwill, University of New South Wales polar scientist, says the permafrost [frozen earth] can be hundreds of metres thick, allowing for large ice features.
'It’s just a remarkable land form. This is obviously a very extreme version of that, and if there’s been any interaction with the gas in the area, that is a question that could only be answered by going there,' Dr Fogwill said. http://www.smh.com.au/world/opinions...716-ztqvi.html

You guys and all your silly scientific theories.. Bah.
It was aliens. Just accept it.
