    Help! My T-1 is stuck!

    Hey guys,

Well, got my new Micro T-1 today. I'm all set to attach the sight to a LaRue LT-660 QD mount, so I start backing out the hex screws to remove the Micro from the factory mount. The first three screws come out with no problem, though I see the telltale signs of a thread locker. The fourth has, so far, refused all of my efforts and I've started to strip the hex screw.

Any advice? I'm wondering if this one received an extra whack of loctite at the factory. I'm not too keen on trying to drill out a screw on my brand new $500 electronic sight.

    Appreciate any help.

Usually heat application works. Aimpoints can take heat pretty well, but I would still try to use some type of insulating paste.

Thanks - how should I apply the heat? Is a hair dryer sufficient? Any idea how long?

Appreciate the prompt response - this is a great site.

Use a soldering Iron. Place the tip directly on the offending screw for about one minute.

Same thing happened to my T-1. You're lucky, though - the hex rounded off on mine. I tried to drill it out but, ended up having to send it to Aimpoint to have the screw removed. Their warranty service is great. I had the T-1 back in about 10 days. They sent me plenty of spare screws, too.

Ugh, this thing won't budge and I've stripped the hex almost completely. It is totally rounded out now.

I'll be calling Aimpoint tomorrow. Thanks again for the advice.

Take a small undersized drill bit and drill into the screw about a 1/16" deep. Then take a screw extractor (tap it first with a hammer) and unscrew presto...This technique works very well with the T1 screws. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem last night when I was removing the stock mount to install a Larue mount. The stock screw heads are very soft and strip too easily. Larue provides new beefier screws with their mount. I was able to remove the damaged screw with a #6/#8 broken screw extractor. It sounds like Aimpoint needs to review this issue since several of us have been having problems.

Aimpoint has taken notice of this and will offer "Hex Head" vice Allen Head screws in the near future. Contact Head Repair Technician John Enloe at 703-263-9795 X223 if you need replacement screws. However, LaRue Tactical now provides steel screws with the LT66X mounts.
