Well the Earth does have an expiration date, once our Sun consumes the last of its fuel it will become a red giant and engulf most of the planets in our solar system. It’s a way off still (about 2.8 billion years according to the latest study published in 2013) but it will happen.

It has nothing to do with satisfaction but does have to do with peace of mind. I fail to see how people (some of which have lived through wars, EF-5 tornados, Category 5 hurricanes, race riots, et al.) who prepare for the inevitable are suddenly diagnosed with a mental health disorder such as OCD. I think it is prudent to have and not need rather than to need and not have instead of burying one's head in the sand but YMMV.

When Rome fell in 476 AD, it through all of Western ( and Eastern later) into the Dark Ages for a very long time. That is the nature of collapse of great powers. What do you think would have happened to all of the satalites of the USSR if we had not been there to help? For that matter to Russia itself? Now if nations fall it effects the entire world more than anyone wants to admit.

People say that the US is not the financial powerhouse it was and that we have taken a backseat to others on the world market. That may be true but ALL money in the world is based on the values of the US Dollar. If that falls theirs may go up, but if it goes away theirs will tank also. That is he nature of money.

Be prepared or not, it is a choice. Noone is telling you to do it. If you have questions feel free to ask. If you are just going to make argumentative statements please do not post.
In no way do I make any money from anyone related to the firearms industry.

My post was a good example of contempt for things you don't understand attitude, and I apologize. Seems to me to be the cause of most of the sociopolitical divide in this country; something I try to immunize myself against, via healthy doses of differing points of view.

This is almost exclusively why I participate in this board chock full of political and social positions I find blindingly hypocritical, morally repugnant, frequently stale, and even septic. Sometimes it's hard not to troll, but I try not to.

Logically, there's really no legitimate position against prepping, if a person feels inclined and possesses the resources to do so. Prep on!

I wonder how far we will evolve, if at all, barring self destruction, before that happens.

    Okay, thanks for clarifying.

On the matter, the then liberal Democratic mayor of the progressive capital San Francisco, CA Gavin Newsom back in 2005 created a web-site for his citizens, SF72.org. This was shortly after Katrina hit NOLA and before the 100 year anniversary of The Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. "Prepping" knows not liberal/conservative lines.

My own 2’, I feel that humanity has peaked and has a whole is on the path of de-evolving. 2.8 billion years is a loooong time, maybe we'll get it right but even our current crop of best minds are saying that we need to be looking at ways off this rock.

South, my concern is not that all of mankind will be wiped out, but that the current way of life will be seriously altered taking away most of the freedoms and luxuries we take for granted on a daily basis. Putting my tin hat on, I don't see value in the US dollar, I don't feel the evolving debt is sustainable, and I strongly feel the future liabilities will press a "new deal" with American's savings. A collapse of the US dollar would be nothing short of catastrophic. Add on a host of destructive legislation and executive orders that can strip away our Constitutional rights and you have what seems to be a government premeditating a total takeover. Some legislation that jumps out at me are the Patriot Act, Homeland Security Act, Freedom of Information Act, National Defense Authorization Act, Affordable Healthcare Act and one of the most controversial pieces of global bs, Agenda 21. Tack on the ever present UN Arms Trade Treaty that we haven't signed yet, but it won't go away. Thankfully, our judicial system has proven resilient in protecting our right to bear arms, but the back door is being eyed up by the globalists.

All that being said, I try not to live with the tin hat on. I have two young children that I want to see grow up and not experience the hardships I fear await. The question I and everyone should be asking themselves is, "what can I do about it?". Personally, I vote my feelings at the polls. Second, I prepare in the event the worst happens, but continue to hope for the best. Is that OCD? I think prudent.

Your thoughts on the short term mirror that of my own.

Well we can't stop it that is for sure. But we can educate others when the opportunity presents itself. We can put back firearms, ammo, medical, food, water, etc. We can build upon our skill sets and those who are in our circles. Train, eat right, and stay in shape.
