Well the Earth does have an expiration date, once our Sun consumes the last of its fuel it will become a red giant and engulf most of the planets in our solar system. Its a way off still (about 2.8 billion years according to the latest study published in 2013) but it will happen.

It has nothing to do with satisfaction but does have to do with peace of mind. I fail to see how people (some of which have lived through wars, EF-5 tornados, Category 5 hurricanes, race riots, et al.) who prepare for the inevitable are suddenly diagnosed with a mental health disorder such as OCD. I think it is prudent to have and not need rather than to need and not have instead of burying one's head in the sand but YMMV.
