It depends on the credit card. The big ones aren't extremely low interest rates regardless of your score. American Express, Discover, BOFA to name a few. You have to shop for anything below 9%.

I have a Mastercard from Chase below 8%. The other ones have variable APRs and change regularly.

BoA at 7.25%, which will be getting canceled soon so that won't matter anymore.

You guys obviously have great credit. I'm 51 and it's easy for me also. Now 90% of the rest of America won't fall into the same category and can't find those options. My 25 year old is rarely offered anything below 15%. Some people need an 18% purchase paid on time to get a history. And a rifle is better than a TV.

If you're 30 and have had credit cards for the past decade without missing a single payment, keep a low balance, and have a good credit history with other companies, you can easily get a credit card with a low interest rate and request a reduction in interest rate on your existing cards.

But if you're 30 and the best interest rate you can get on a credit card is 20%, then there is something seriously wrong and you need to review your credit report ASAP.
Well this has piqued my interest (no pun intended). Card A is 20% and Card B 12%. Card A is the first one I ever got when I was probably 18-20. It was probably 20% when I got it and it’s just not gone down. The second was I got probably 10 years ago (offered cash back rewards) and probably reflected my credit score of the time.

I’m sure I could call them and get them to lower the rates, but I’ve never carried a balance over a month so not even worth my time at the moment.

Asking them to lower it is easy. Just call and say, "I really want to use your card more, but the interest rate is just unacceptable so I only use it a few times a month." And then see what they say.

Also, sometimes they are willing to mail out checks that are "no interest for _____ months." If those are available, ask for them. It's like getting a free loan.

What rate do you think you'd get from a bank? Oh, they would laugh you out the door at the mere mention of financing a rifle.
