    Palmer v. D.C. (Another 2A Victory!)

    Decision on Palmer v. D.C.

"In light of Heller, McDonald, and their progeny, there is no longer any basis on which this Court can conclude that the District of Columbia’s total ban on the public carrying of ready-to-use handguns outside the home is constitutional under any level of scrutiny. Therefore, the Court finds that the District of Columbia’s complete ban on the carrying of handguns in public is unconstitutional. Accordingly, the Court grants Plaintiffs’ motion for summary judgment and enjoins Defendants from enforcing the home limitations of D.C. Code § 7-2502.02(a)(4) and enforcing D.C. Code § 22-4504(a) unless and until such time as the District of Columbia adopts a licensing mechanism consistent with constitutional standards enabling people to exercise their Second Amendment right to bear arms.4 Furthermore, this injunction prohibits the District from completely banning the carrying of handguns in public for self-defense by otherwise qualified non-residents based solely on the fact that they are not residents of the District."

While there is a long way to go to Shall Issue, I'm optimistic as a Virginia resident that carry *could* be legal for the little people sometime in the future.

I may actually join my family and friends on their tours of DC when they visit if that happens. Currently I tell them how to get into DC and to call when they are on their way home so I can fire up the grill.

.... Adopts a licensing mechanism consistent with constitutional standards....

At any rate a win is a win so good news nonetheless.

So, is this the final step that a firearm is not just for use in the home, but it inherently has use outside your house? Isn't that a big deal? That the 2A extends past your stoop?

IF you are outside, a rifle is far superior to a handgun for defense. Maybe not an everyday carry item, but a possible avenue to protection for rifle ownership?

So this was just a district court decision, I thought it was a SCOTUS (which I did find odd because of the timing).

This is why we need GOP presidents. You can complain all about RINOs and such, but the only chance we have of lo.ng term impact is SCOTUS, and another 8 years of Hillary appointees (or worse E. Warren) will make 5-4s go against us eventually
