BoringGuky45,
You sir, are absolutely correct.
I spent 6 weeks up there on vacation (NEVER again) and generally found the people cold and standoffish to such an extent I couldn't believe it.
As an example: ALWAYS leaving a more than generous tip at one restaurant every time we ate there and was always waited on by the same waitress, we were always treated with not quite, but almost hostility. We were never demanding or demeaning. We were flabbergasted.
We went to other places to eat, same treatment. I got this weird vibe that wait staff believed their jobs were beneath them, and felt resentment towards those they had to wait on. Very haughty attitude. Like they were down on their luck royalty who were forced to rub elbows with the hoi polloi...
A variation on this theme elsewhere made us leave a week's paid for cabin because we couldn't wait to get back to the south, where people in general are friendly and welcoming.

Guess someone in the administration must have read my post (or the NSA forwarded it):

I can say, as a native New Englander, that while the region as a whole is not known for being friendly at all, Cape Cod is among the worst. It's understandable that traffic and crowds are a major pain in the ass during tourist season, but that's the price you pay for living near the beach. I went up there a lot. Oh, the stories I could tell, but I won't derail the thread right now.
